Looks like a lack of calcium in the water. What's your KH?

No idea but if he dies then he dies. I was just curious. they reproduce to fast for my taste anyways.

This is a lack of calcium in the water, it occurs the times your KH goes down. But I observed this also as a sign of age, and I guess this just happens in a snails life (falling on stones, etc.). But you seem to have nevertheless enough calcium in the water, because the shell which grew recently (this is where the snail comes out) looks very healthy. If this corrosion isn't on the whole shell, I would't worry.

i give my snails calcium and their shells don't do that anymore.
Yup...calcium deficiency...
