Well... I've been cycling a tank for my productive Jack Dempsy or Blue Acara for a while. Then i was trying to catch them to put in their new home, but where were they? I've been missing a lot of my fish...where were they going?

Oh look my loaches are out a lot more....A-ha the latex rock background was coming off!!!! Ok so I removed the background.and found all my fish.

Look! eggs a plenty on the back of the background...it's 4 ft long. Now the latex rock is poking out of my tiny tank the eggs are just under the water and the filter water is flowing over them.

Now they are wriggling and falling down into a heap and wriggling happily away. There's a few yet to wriggle. Then I can take the background out.

I know to use fry food but Do I need to do anything special with them to keep the growing. Previousy batches have had parental care until they were free swimming.

i dont know much about jack dempsey or blue acara fry but since they wont have the parents too protect them, if you can i would put them in that newly cycled tank so by themselves so nothing eats them

LOL They had themselves a pretty good hiding space apparently. I hope that current from the filter isn't too much for them? If you can't separate them, wrap some nylon around the filter uptake so they don't get sucked up the tube. In my shrimp tank, I actually have floss wrapped around the uptake tube. (No nylons)

Well...the wrigglers are all wriggling in the growing tank now there are a few fry from the last batch with them. There is a stocking over the filter inlet so that's OK. The parents are in their new home so now they can stop hassling tha rest of the tank.

the wrigglers are down among the gravel
a few less as the bubble snail got a few...it's now in solitary confinment until I can take it to the work tank

You have an interesting set of parents. Never heard of a Blue Acrara and a Dempsey mating up but hadn't thought of it really. How do you like the Acara? Been thinking of getting one when I get a larger tank?

well the fish are the same breed...I not sure what they are people have offered suggestions. I had settled of blue acara until I saw a photo in the potm comp. which was a jack dempsy. The fish change colour a lot.
What do you think they are ...they were sold as golden cichlid!
Blue acar and jack dempsey were in the same tank.
I love them/.... whatever they are
the colours are great but they do get very territorial and my 5 ft tank has been very stressed when the babe's come.
the colour change is amazing..tonight I've watched them go from nearly black with irradecent blue spots to silver with blue spots. beautiful. Their are settling into their new tank just need to give then a cave. they are hard on plants...rip them out! only artificial ones for them.

they are very interesting fish. An update...the 4 fry left from an earlier batch....they attacked the wrigglers so into a fry tank nestled in the growing tank for those bigger bullies. lots of wrigglers still going strong..i guess they will be swimming soon.

Cabrego thinks they are a jack dempsy green terro x.
Thanks for your interest.:4:

I'm watching the shimmy shake of the reproductive dance of these guys......Do green terrors or JD's get a greenish tinge when mating?
These guys have a green tinge along the upper body while dancing..never seen it before only the dark stripes/colour and blue/aqua colours with silver.
The green tinge is a new thing for me but distinct on both fish.
