well here they are. the poor babies! The old tank had never been cleaned, the ammonia was at like .5 the temperature was over 86 degrees!!! The Nitrites in their tank was off the charts with the master test kit; it was soooo high he test couldn't even get a true reading!!! POOR POOR BABIES!!!
but they are in their melafix medicated 80 degree tank now with real substrate and live plants and no sunken pirate ship.
And the pleco that came with is now resting in my 40g away from the oscars who were beating him up and attacking him.
Here are a couple pictures of Yandos and Saber (yes I already got names; those were the names of my moms two oscars she had when she was 18)
How do they look?? Do they seem healthy enough, considering their prior conditions???

and here is the pleco... looks like a common, who will most likely move to the LFS once he outgrows the 40g. or just be moved to the Oscars new tank once I get it set up and he's big enough to hold his own.

does anyone have any input?? Or suggestions?? Is it okay that Yontos is white?? My friend said white means they are sick or unhappy??? is that true?

yontos is white cause he is an albino. they look to be in pretty good condition considering. congrats to you for saving them too by the way. they should be ok id say, give them some time to settle in to their new home and dont be suprised if they "sulk" for a few days as oscars usually do if they have any change in their lifestyle, eg, tank change, decor change even a diet change may cause them to sulk. they are very moody fish and you will soon find that out yourself. good luck with them, and enjoy them, oscars are great, i love mine. theyre the best:19:

awesome. thanks to both of you. Yantos has been doing a bit of pouting about being moved to a small temp tank... but honestly... i think they're both sorta happy because they're free from the nitrite poisoning and nearly boiling water.
I'll keep you all posted on their condition as the days roll by. :)
and to think.... I was afraid of Oscars just yesterday... :)
(now if only i can kick the bug and jellyfish fears, i'll be set!)

nothing to be scared of at this size... its when they get bigger and more daring they become scary lol. i HATE cleaning the algae off the inside of my tank walls in oscars tank. he is the biggest of my oscars and he is the most self confident... ive been bitten so many times i forget lol
but dont let me scare you hey, i have 4 other oscars that are fine with me, never bitten and never even attempt it.
all oscars have their own personality and im sure you will see soon enough :11:

yeah when i was removing them from their old tank they came off as rather timid and submissive, they both just went and laid down behind some decorations... i dont know if they're just mellow in personality or if its because the nitrite poisoning was just draining their attitude

they were probably lying down for two reasons, 1 would be the stress from the nitrite poisoning like you said and 2 the stress of being caught. they should come good. that they swam to the side of the glass to get their photos taken is a good sign though :ezpi_wink1:

im definately gonna get myself a 120 in december, but im getting yontos and saber their own 75 or 90... depends on how I'm feeling about it when i go for the purchase.
what kind of decor do they like? They keep digging up the plants in the tank. Do they prefer rocks and driftwood as opposed to a planted aquarium?? Whats the trick?
oh wow, there both pretty, espesially the lighter one they look awesome
You did a good thing!
They look very good for what they've had to put up with!
