A friend of mine has a Tiger Oscar with a macaroni size intestine hangign out his rectum. It doesnt seem to affect his behaviour. Is this a normal thing, or is this fish marked for death? Is there anyway to save this fish? Any info on this would be greatly apreciated. Thanks.

Thanks, I started another thread on the Oscar forum. Sorry no pics, my camera pics (file size) is to large to transfer onto this site (iv'e tried). Anyways it looks like half a macaroni noodle sticking out of his rectum. Its really pink and theres a hole in it just like the macaroni noodle.

You could upload them to photobucket. try feeding peas to see if it helps.

Use that to resize them to 600x400 or whatever the closest option to those dimensions is.

Are you sure it is not a breeding tube?????

What does a breeding tube look like? It may be just that. Also I will try the photobucket thing. Thanks for the info guys.

Females breeding tube looks long and rounded and a males breeding tube short and pointy.....

I can not for the love of me find a picture of an Oscar online with a breeding tube down... Holy cow...

I'm going to venture to say that is not a breeding tube. Does the Oscar still pass waste. It is hard to tell from not being right there but........ man...

looks like internal parasites to me

My friend says that he used tp poop normal, then in the last couple of days his poops got really big (small marble size). than this happened. He also said that a small little string of poop came out of it today. He said the oscar has been on a diet of small cichlid pettets and some flakes.

Is there a way to cure internal parasites?

03-27-2008, 02:07 AM
try feeding some minced garlic to him, parasites cant stand garlic

Tell your friend to add some aquarium salt to the water, raise the temperature up around 82 or 83 to help prevent bacterial infections. Boil some peas and deshell them and tell him to feed them to the Oscar. Stop feeding him the pellets for the next two days and only feed him deshelled boiled peas.

Ask your friend if he can isolate the Oscar in a treatment tank... If so give the Oscar a copper bath... Google copper bathing fish or internal parasite fish to get the complete instructions. Internal parasites that reproduce are hard to get rid of....

So is it afficial than it's internal parasites, and not a breeding tube?

03-27-2008, 02:30 AM
I'd say it is probably a parasite. I can't speak for Cocoa but from [revious posts I'd say he is on the parasite train to........ Try the minced garlic and if that doesn't work maybe a copper bath. Try minced garlic, boiled deshelled peas and get some salt in the water. Raise up the temp a little if you can.

Yeah peas work great. I fed my oscar peas for a few days straight and i believe hes fine now. But you should always give him quality food. And of course try to have clean water. By the way, Oscars are South American, just so ya know.

For internal parasites I like to use Jungle Parasite Clear. Has worked well for me. It is also sold a Walmart and is cheap.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I told my friend everything and he has it under control. That purtrusion went back inside and has not come out since. His Oscar looks happy and healthy. :19:
