If you happen to be a lousy speller like I am, I found a free spell checker that's an add-on for Internet Explorer. I've been using it for 4 years now and love it.

It's pretty cool, really. You type your post, then click on tools at the top of the page and you check the spelling from there.

For those of us with less than perfect spelling, it works great. For me, I transpose words so even with that it doesn't help me much. I write this for that, which for way, etc. Ya think old age is a factor here? LOLOLOL

It's possible that it was me that posted it.

If it was me, I also posted about the Spellbound Development version for Firefox 1.5 versions. With Firefox it does inline spell checking to include underlining as you misspell. ;)

I forgot to mention that the new Firefox (2.0) released this week has inline spell checking built in!

Never used anything but IE. I should give Firefox a go?

My personal recommendation is to give it a try. The latest version of IE (version 7) has taken a page from Mozilla and Firefox, but it still has its problems.

If you haven't upgraded yet to IE7, go ahead and install Firefox 2.0. Learning it is just as easy as learning IE7. The only problem will be certain sites that aren't Firefox compatible. For that, I use the IEView extension.

Extensions are probably the best part of Firefox. It allows for people to develop add-ons that customize Firefox far beyond anything IE can do.

I did upgrade to IE 7 but didn't like it. Uninstalled it after a week.

But it has only been final for a week.

One thing to consider...with IE7 out, IE6 will no longer be supported. That means you'll be vulnerable to security threats that don't get patched.

Because of that, I'd consider one of the two updates, even if you don't like them. Security trumps functionality for me.

IE7 is default with Vista ( been running the 64bit version for 1 month now)
no issues with it, nice and quick. I used firefox once, but can't say I was over impressed, sure there was some nice tweaks, but if you know explorer, there are enough tweaks in that too. The only reason IE and MS are attacked more is that if someone finds a leak they will exploit it as quick as possible and it has a higher wider impact.

It's the same as linux, no one really bothers to crack it or find out the weaknesses as it's not worth it, it won't have such a potential audience.

Firefox has been known ( as have other Mozilla browser ) to have their own security and memory leaks, but it's IE that has the focus because 82% of the world still uses IE

It's pretty much your own choice, although the EC commission that said that MS should release the operating systems without a browser must have their head in a place where the sun doesn't shine as otherwise a user needs to find a place where he can get an browser to install it on his system before he can go online to make his own choice...

Personally I think it's up to each persons own choice to use which ever they feel like. Afterall, it's the browser doesn't help that much when your on a fast system and a broadband connection. If you always patch your system with MS updates then the "security risks" are normally not there as before the risk is out in the wild, the patch is normally installed...

The IE7 has been out a while. My daughter installed it more than a month ago, same time I did.

Carol,
That was most likely a Beta (test version - there were a few of these), or possibly even a Release Candidate (Beyond beta but still looking for bugs just in case - a couple versions of this, too). As of last week it has been officially released.
