for whatever reason i love gouramis and have definitely made them my favorite fish. I think i might want to slowly turn my tank into an all gourami tank or mainly gouramis with some schooling fish. I already have a pink kisser, a pearl, and a blue gourami. About how many other species are there?

im not counting varities or color morphs, and just thinking of the more common ones, has anyone had any experience with a bunch of different gouramis together?

one of the FW LFS i go to has a gourami show tank, they have probably 25 gouramis in one tank, all different species like pearl, dwarf, kissing, etc. they all seem to get along

so it is possible, cool! i thought i was already pushing my limit with 3 different species. Do you know if they kept the tank to females or mixed genders?

I would say that there are 15-25 common species and an additional 50-100 species that is seen every now and than. There might even be more.
Mostly because what is usally seen as one species often are several species.

Examples:
The giant gourami is usually one of 4 species.
The chocolate gourami is usally one of 5 species
And the list goes on.

erik, i think it was mixed gender but to be safe i would get only females
