Hi all,
I need urgent help here, I introduced a few new fish into my 50 galon tank 7 days ago . Since then i've had problems with fin rot and spots on my silver dolars they seem to be in real trouble now,
I've treated the tank with some disease clear liquid , but have not seen any results.
Water paramaters are all ok , and i've now done a full water change.
What can I do ?
Help please... only silvers seem to have problems.
This has been posted in the wrong section , please remove and i'll repost in the correct area.
thanks
Stress fish lover..

what type of "liquid"did you treat with?A total water change?Like all of it at once?Dont do that again.Thats a sure way to stress the heck out of your fish. The spots, are they salt like spots on your fish?If so its ick,get a quality ick med such as ap quick cure and follow the directions.Till then get the heat turned up to the low 80s,that will help.

Hi,
Thanks for the qucik reply, I did the water change over 3 days, Ok have jsut turned up the water to 80 now .
I had treated with a Silver proteinate solution , its ment to be a broad spectrue treatment .
On the spots yes your right they are salt looking..

I would suggest buying a 10g tank to use as hospital/quarantine tank. Then treat with melafix or primafix. I forget which one does what, but one of them will help. If you don't have room for 10g hospital tank, just treat your main tank with recommended dosage.
EDIT: What do the spots look like? Depending on what they were, it might not have helped your situation to do a full water change.

they were small white spots, but i dont think thats a major problem at the moment as i can only see this on one of the healthy looking fish.

The white spots could be ich. If its ich, that will be much worse for your fish then the fin and tail rot.

you mention in the twin post to this one that you dont think the spots are a problem,if they are saltlike crystal then it is ick and it is for sure a problem.I am unfamiliar with the chem you have used hopefully it will work for you.

I merged your two threads together. In the future, you need only one thread per problem.

its unlikely that just the one fish has the ick at this point.

Since its ich, you treat the whole tank for it just not a single fish. If it was just fin and tail rot, it would be good idea to separate the fish from the main tank. Start treatment for ich as soon as you can. If your not sure how to treat for ich, let us know.

Hi All,
Just a question on the treatment of ICK , the treatment i bough was a 3 day treatment, i've followed all instructions and removed the releven media from my filte. However it doent say how long I should leave it before putting the media back in , any idea?
On a better not there was one fish who I though was on his last legs but the last 2 days he's really picked up ... So fingers crossed

I assume you are referring to removing carbon from your filter during treatment. You will want to put that back in the day after you are done treating and there are no more symptoms of ick.

I went through a lengthy bout of Ich lately myself. I treated with chemicals for days. I'd introduce new fish after I thought I was safe only to have the new fish contract the disease. The thing that finally did the disease in was to turn the temp up to 84-86 degrees. I think that 80 degrees is not enough. You'll get more advice as the day goes on though. Good luck.

If you go back to page 27 or so on this forum and look for a thread "Urgent help needed please" started by me you will see some advice from Jbeining75 for treating Ich. It's sort of a schedule. I would follow this and get the temp up.
