That is so sad!
If the fish stores feel like they have to sell them they should at least make sure the buyer has a very very large tank!

Unfortunately, they are still sold because people continue to buy them. It's like Dyed fish, Moorish Idols, and Pacu. As long as there is a market for them they will be sold.

Ever see Finding Nemo? Gill is a Moorish Idol. They have a terrible record in aquariums. In the wild they grow to 12" and live 10+ years. In tanks most people can't even get them to live past 2 weeks. If they do manage to get them that long, most won't last more than 2 years. When a Moorish Idol stops eating, it's pretty much impossible to get it to start again.
ooo ok
so its kinda like the elephant nose
those things never live

yeah, ditto with the moorish idol abuse
One of my first fish was a ID shark, that guy was bulletproof, took the ammonia in my first tank like it was nothing. poor guy went through so much abuse. eventually i had bad ammonia issues so i gave him away. wonder if hes alive still
My first fish were ID shark and 2 tiger barbs they didnt last long because i had no idea what i was doing i fely soo bad but then i went to zebra danios
and now i have 7 tanks...

I think one of the problems is that the stores don't tell you how big this ID's grow. which is what happened to me when I bough a pair now that I found out two months later of their size I am planning to get rid of them but I am kind of attached to them so I am trying to see how long would it take for them to grow and what kind of tank do I have to get to see if I could keep them other wise I still have time to do something about it since they are only like 4 inches long right now.

not to pick on a specific store or anything but petsmart is bad for selling fish that get 2' long or larger (ID sharks, pacu, etc) and selling them as juveniles. only professional stores should sell larger fish like that

thats really sad to see that. it continually amazes me what some people do to fish. its not a good amazement though let me tell you.

closest wal-mart by me never ceased to amaze me. they were understaffed so that had like 4 cashiers, and literally like 3 other workers in the whole store, the fish section was neglected.
They had african cichlids and gouramis mixed, and oscars and sailfin mollys mixed. as well as plecos and goldfish, drove me nuts
when they upgraded to a supercenter last may they quit selling fish, they had a sign up "we will stop selling fish due to construction", but the construction took place far away from the tanks.
i was scared to see what would happen to the remaing 20 fish so i was going to buy them, they paged 8 times for a worker to net them but noone came so i had no choice but to not get them, knowing wal-mart employees they probably got flushed
Would it even be worth it trying to buy a lionfish from petco and trying to move it to a better home
its 24.99
I dont have any SW or anything but they are such a cool fish
and would liek to save him/her

it probably wouldnt be, lionfish are finicky to water conditions and are hard to eat, they also need a established reef, im sure someone will buy it
yeah thats what im afraid of the place is soo bad that they cant even keep anything alive... but if you say it wouldnt make it i wont try it
