Here is my housing..... The heat rock is in the back corner and I actually cut the cird off and bought a basking lamp that heats the rock....

Yeah I threw it together real quick when I set up the tank. I need to get some plants in the tank so I can get him more comfortable.

Thats a good move. Those heat rocks are not a good thing. A reptile will lay on it and not realize that the heat is on it's belly and it can actually burn the reptile. So it is not good for them. I would never use one. I know that yours came with the tank.

Tolley...have you thought of switching to a sand substrate?? The Gecko will probably really like it.

Tolley

Yeah i did squirt but i've heard that when the gecko lick the substrate they cant digest it and can die from compaction. well younger ones anyway

and i read that about the heat rocks too. I have a heatlamp and heatmat.

When they are young they are prone to impactions from loose substrates. When they are bigger Calci-Sand is the best option for a loose substrate because they can actually break it down. Even if they don't, a little will pass through them without any issue. It would take a lot to block up an adult, but it is possible. That is why on very strict forums (you know the type, the nazi-style 'if you don't do it the way we do you are going to kill your animal' type forums) you will see them go crazy over any loose substrate.

None right now, but may be getting back in to them. I have had them in the past (and still deal with them at work). I bred leopard geckos for a while.

I have 3 leopards myself. 2 albino chocolates m & f and a m tangerine. I used reptile matting until they were adults and then switched to the calci-sand. I will get some pics tomorrow of my set ups and gecko's. I feed mine 4 wk crickets and mixed fruit baby food once a week. It took a bit for them to take to the mixed fruit but now they pig it down quickly. I cut the cord of my heat rock a long time ago but they still use it as it gets a bit of heat from the basking lamp.

Have you tried any meat based baby foods, or maybe the Repashy/T-rex crested gecko diet?
Which fruits?
Did you just keep putting it in their tank, or did you do anything else to get them on it?
All three are on it?

I haven't tried the meaty varieties, only the mashed mixed fruits. Bananas, strawberries, apricots and apple. it's an organic mix. My male tangerine took to it right away. The female albino chocolate took a bit before she started eating it. Now they both pig out on it. I feed them about 2 tablespoons once a week. The male albino chocolate is still testing the waters and nibbles at it a bit, but he was a rescue and I just started him on it. I stuck with just the calcium dusted crickets for the first 3 weeks or so with him to make sure he was eating.

Noticed any increase in coloration? Seems like those fruits could provide beta carotene that could increase their warm colors. Is their feces more watery now?

sailor

I haven't noticed any colour change, and their feces seems the same as before. I read on a reptile forum that a lot of people were feeding their leopard gecko's this as it was good for them so I thought i would give it a try.
My gecko's are like the fish lol. Walk past them and they come out to be fed.

I had thought about this when I was reading about crested geckos. If I get leopard geckos again I will be giving it a shot. I may even try the crested gecko powdered diet too to see how they like it.

Nice gecko Tolley!

Now you're making me want to start a reptile tank! It's a whole new kind of MTS.

Nice pix! Glad to hear that your new friend is doing good!
Leopard geckos are always cute, letalone reptiles. Reptiles always seem smarter than any other type of animals, and the only reason why I don't like reptiles, is that if I do something stupid or humiliating, He/She'l stare at me like I am a complete idiot.

I am definitely getting a leo now!

I'm getting an old 10g long set-up, and as soon as everything is ready and I locate a good breeder, I'll be joining this gecko craze too!
Shoudn't be more than a few months, I want to get my 72g relatively "stable" first, but it shouldn't cost too much to set this up I hope (knock on wood)

Good luck Tolley and keep us updated!

She has to be a female, look at those beautiful eyes. She's gorgeous!! My husband won't let me have any reptiles at all in the house :( If I came home with a lizard...he'd freak!!!
