Well i read the reviews about the light i got and everyone complained about it getting super hot. Figured it couldn't be that bad plus mines in the open.

Well this thing gets burning hot. It has 4 tiny fans on it but i'm pretty sure they don't do anything.

Anyone know of a way to splice computer fans or something into the thing?

how many watts is the light? the 4 fans should be fine, my 260w PC has only 4 fans and the light only gets hot if i leave it on for 14 hours

It too is a 260w PC but it's the cheapo/cheapest one you can get. If i put my hand on it for more then a few seconds it will get burnt.

haha, i think mines the cheapest, $99 off of ebay, brand new buy it now

theres cooling fans for sale on ebay but you can rig a computer fan to do the job, i dont know how since ive never done it.

If you can find a few fans, add up the total voltage, and see if you can find an AC/DC converter that steps down to that voltage, or a bit above. Old chargers for drills usually do the trick.

You could solder them together, and add a switch if you were so inclined.

If you have a brother, sister or wife, you could get them to stand there for the duration the fans are on. The going pay for such a job is about $0.05/hr, with a 7 minute break every 9 hours or so. A nice treat of a baby carrot every once in awhile will not only keep moral up, but also give them an energy boost for the extra cooling!

Or else you could do what Drum said, and just wire up a few computer fans.

I have a couple fans on my reef lights.

I think it's really only needed with T5s and metal halides, but if you want a little extra security you should be able to find cooling fans for under $100 without having to buy a whole new hood.

I might swing by the computer store today to see if they have any insight on how to hook up some of those fans. I'd probably just put them on top of the existing fans to almost double the flow. Maybe in one side and out the other or something like that.
