Well, I need to get a background for Bruce's tank. It's driving me crazy to see his air pump and my cork board on the back of his tank. I would probably put the background on two sides since it sits in the corner of my desk. I really like the look of black backgrounds, but since he is mostly a black fish, would that make him become lost? Will I lose sight of him if he's against a black background?

Also, does the black create a reflection? He's a pretty grumpy fish, and he'll flare at just about anything usually (hence why he killed my ghost shrimp - still haven't forgiven him for that one! lol). I just want to make sure he doesn't over work himself or whatever. Don't want him stressed out because he's looking at himself all day. lol

If black does create a reflection, so you have any other ideas? Or if you think something would look better just because you think so, share that as well! I'll attach a picture that I took of the tank a week or so ago. The plants are filling out more right now, but it's the same set up. Let me know what you think!!! Thanks :)

(there's also a picture of just Bruce so you can see his colorings - he's mostly black with some red and blue in his fins.)

Get some coloured paper and try some out behind him. Its really just preference.

On all my tanks I prefer having all black backgrounds because it is easier to spot fish. Unless the fish are black. If they are black they will just blend in. As Tolley said though, it is just preference.

Having a background does make fish more comfortable.
