this is pretty random and it probably dosent make any sense, forgive me for my radical thinking!! maybe im turning crazy!! :help: lol

i was just thinking what would happen if when you do a water change, you took the old water and somehow boiled it untill it was all gone but caught the evaporating water...if you could catch the water/steam/evaporation in a holding tank... you could re use the water because you would have evapourated out all the nasties and nitrates??

Dont worry i wont be offended if you bannish me from the forum!!

that would work!!!! we did a evaporation thing last yr and all u need is a bit of glad wrap going into where u want the water to go.......

If you evaporate the water you will hardly have enough to refill the tank again and have to put regular water with it again... a lot of work for hardly anything I reckon .. LOL

By the time you set up the glad wrap to catch the evaporation and refill the pot because you are boiling the entire tank away to get one pot of clean water. I have already put my siphon away and started working on my beer lol.... Good luck though. You will always need another water source though. The water being evaporated is going to have to be replaced from somewhere.....:11:

Survivorman does this stuff all the time. It's just a way to purify it! It'd work, but man would it be a pain in the bum!

If you needed softer water and had no other means, that would be one way. Otherwise, just keep doing it normally.

it would work, yes, but a lot of work

dont worry, you wont get banned for this thread. the only person who's been banned for a weird question was a guy about 8 months ago who asked if his fish could like in orange juice or milk

I was on this other forum awhile ago... some whack job wanted to know if he could feed his fish bodily fluids... I think that was the worst...

Can't say retard. Must be politically correct. Person who is not quite as smart as others but it is not their fault so it is okay and it is wrong to acknowledge they are different.

...isn't that just distilling water? Doable, but a lot of work...and probably takes more energy than it's worth...

Agreed this is to much work Iwould ratehr set up a device yo catch all the dew and evaperation and have it fall into a little vile and dump it back in the tank... if that makes sense.

Boiling and evaperation is so tedious!

My god I am glad they are not here, why would someone think of putting a fish into orange juice:S:S

talked to a lady yesterday and she said she was doing water change because she said the tank was disgusting and she finally decided to do something about it and the fish freaked out and jumped out of her little tank when do water changes and it jumped into her campbells vegtable soup! OMG YUCK And guess what guys ....
The fish in the tank died and the fish who jumped into the vegatable soup survived and everybody knows what that fishes name was after that .... Campbell

This was about 15 years ago

Even if you could make it work, wouldn't the water be lacking in all the nutrients that are in fresh water? For instance, even in a heavily planted tank that keeps nitrates next to nothing, you need to change the water still to replenish the nutrients. So re-using the same water wouldn't replenish anything.

Yea it's just distillation, the kind of thing you do in chemisty class. It shouldn't be too hard, but you'll need the right equipment, which is really just a flask, cork with a thermometer in it, tubing, and then a collection cup sitting in a cold cup of water. When the temp plateaus at 100 degrees celcius water will start to funnel into the collection cup.

This might work, but wouldn't it be easier to collect the rain water? But both possibilities won't make your plants very happy.

I get it, and that is a cool idea its both enviromenterly friendly and it dosnt waste water, if I could put it in better words like instructions

I think he means you take the old water, boil it and you know how steam comes up, well somehow catch that steam until it turns back into water and then re use it

Steff

But you have to put some energy into the water to make it evaporate. That means that you don't pay for the water, but for the energy, because you don't get it back, it will just heat whatever you use to collect the steam.
