Growing Plants with an UGF

Has anyone here had any success growing plants while operating an under-gravel filter? Generally any plant's roots I know of can't handle the disturbence? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!:19:

You can grow plants with a undergravel filter, but the roots will clog the filter plate over time, and you will have to rip them up. Low light plants would work the best anything else you'll run into problems. If you add high light with a UGF your asking for algae.

not true many types of algea grow in the dark. Like types of hair algea

Algae uses phototsynthesis, that means it needs at least some light, so it won't grow in the dark.

what if you set the ugf up as a reverse-flow ugf?

You could also grow floating plants and clumping plants like java moss. YOu can have the green without the roots.
