I have a 29gal tank with:

4 zebra danios-1.5 in
2 angelfish-nickel sized bodies
2 bolivian rams-3 in
1 siamese algae eater-2 in

My Ph is 7, ammonia and nitrite 0, and nitrate around 8.
I was wondering if i could put polished stones in my tank, or would they have harmful chemicals? would they harden the water or raise the Ph? Also, woul quartz be OK? All help would be appriciated.

Thanx,
Alex:c2:

Hi, and Welcome to AC....
Quartz is not a problem in a tank, it won't raise your pH and you can have a big or small piece, depends essentially of the space you have in your tank...
The problem is more about edge, which can hurt fishies sometimes... But if they're polished quartz their's no problem...

But if your quartz have others minerals on it, be careful, some can be harmful like pyrite and some black mica, they can release heavy metals in your water....

Best of luck with your tank, and once finished, maybe you can show us some pics?:19:
