Oh Rich. I am so, so sorry. My eyes started watering as soon as I saw your post. Dogs give us so much unconditional love and are like losing a member of our family. I feel so very sad for you.

Oh boy thats sad to hear.
If a "family member" passes away ist always very sad, especially when it comes to dogs.
But those years with your friend cant be taken away from you.

I lost my german shepard after 15 years to cancer. It is hard as H to get over it. You look for them and expect to see them walk into the room for ages. I thought of you for ages last night. Once again, I am so sad for you.

In the last 16 months we have lost three pets to old age. Two dogs, ages 13 & 15 and a 20 year old cat. Zephyr was 13. I guess in my grief I had confusion when I dated her photo as she was born New Years day in 95, not 93. Minor detail, I knew she was 13, just didn't have the math skills at that moment.
Of the three, Zephyr was probably the best pet. She was the most eager to please around the house and field. I always told people she was smart enough to learn and dumb enough to train. If you've ever trained gun dogs you probably understand that. :o) If you've ever had pointing dogs, she was a "positive pointer". If she was on point she wasn't moving and there was a bird to be found. She hunted for me.
48 years of life over three pets, I can't complain. As rough as losing her has been and still is, I am happy she went here at home and not at the Vet's office. She was tired and she went without pain. She runs with Katie now.
I thank you all for your condolences.
Rich

I hope you find some comfort in knowing that your pets live this long simply due to the great care you give them and loving them back. Take some comfort knowing you gave them all you could, was a great daddy to them and gave them a wonderful life.
I am riddled, yet, with guilt for giving my Rudy to my ex-husband and having him killed by a car so quickly. I should have known he wouldn't care for a dog properly and I was the one who placed him in the hands of some idiot with no responsiblity. That one I get to live with!

Rich, I am so sorry for your loss. The bond you build with a "working" dog is always so strong. I hope you find some peace in your memories.
