Ok, just thought I'd throw out a little challange for people. Loricariids are probably one of the most common fish in the hobby, but of the known 731 species, very few are known to most hobbyists. I had the privilage of owning a couple of not so common Plecs. Thought I throw up a pic of them and give 100 points to the first person that can properly ID them. Give the L number when you ID these guys. The Clown Plec in the middle is not the one I'm looking for.

Thanks Goldbarb!
I saw one of them in the LFS here the other week, really liked him, but he was $200!!!!
I think they had him as a "orange line pleco" but they did have the L number! (luckily! lol)

You're welcome.
$200!!! Are you kidding me? I got a pair of them and I payed something like $16 each for them. That's insane.

From what I understand cocoa, there are actually a lot of plecs that are illegal to own in Australia. Someone once told me that there are actually stringant rules regarding the importing of plecos because they can survive in the water ways there and they don't want them getting loose.

angel, does that include the captive bred ones or is it just the wild caught ones that are that expensive?

it does seem to be both :( a sunshine plec(the most expensive one ive seen) over here can be brought for £150-£200 ($300-$400 roughly) but thats for quite a big one about 6-7 inches long, even a baby is dear,i think it might also depend on the lfs, some vary around here some are cheaper some are very expensive!! royal plecs here always have a high pricetag, my panaque for example is only 3 inches long and he cost me £25($50 roughly):19:

Plecos are ridiculously priced here cocoa, I think it does have to do with all the importation etc, but still, and yes clown pleco you can't get for under $100! and my gibby (sailfin pleco, L165, L083) was $40, and he was only an inch long! Plecos are all expensive here. You don't see a huge variety of them, obviously not the turnover that they get with other fish. I was very suprised to see the orange seam ones, always love looking at them. I did see a couple of the african frog plecos or whatever they are properly called, but they were about $350!
