Food removal question

I know micro pellets and flake food has to be removed quickly..

What about algae wafers.. How long before you have to pull them out of the tank?

Vegetables should be put in at night, and removed in the morning, right?

Any other guidelines on food removal you can think of?

Fresh fruits and veggies I wouldn't go much more than 12 hours or so. Some will say more but I'd prefer not to have any blooms. For the algae wafers I'd throw them in at night and they are usually gone by the morning. The longer fresh food stays in the higher chance of bloom...

Ok, I thought wafers had to go within 10 minutes or so, too.. Just like flakes..

What about bottom feeder pellets?

NLS makes a very good H2O stable wafer that will hold up a long time. They are what I use for my plecos, cories and various bottom feeders, and have never had a problem with it fouling the water.

Yes, that's what I intend to get..

So you don't remove them at all?

NLS made that wafer so it doesn't decompose as fast as others would. It will hold its nutrients alot longer than a normal wafer....

Might be ok to leave them overnight, then just like the veggies..

I drop them in for the bottom dwellers but i think they get help from everyone, they don't seem to last too long in the tank.

I also use the hikari micro pellets ,remove them?My fish eat them ,if you have any leftover at all you are feeding far too much.Having corys make a big difference,they will assure you will have nothing leftover.

The thing is to feed the right amount so there is no more food to take out. As for the bottom feeders just use NLS h2o stable wafers. Ive heard great things about them.

All my fish get NLS, and I don't use the wafers anymore, just the pellets.

It takes algae eaters longer to eat so their food should last longer. Other foods should be eaten in a reasonable amount of time (five minutes or so). The other thing is to have enough bottom feeders to ensure any extra food is taken care of.
