Well, my worst fear has been realized. I have the common pond snail in my tank.

I thought I had got them all, but I just killed 3. Two of them were babies, so I know for a fact there are more that I have not found. 1 was the adult. Since I have a heavily planted tank, finding them all is going to be impossible. I can not treat with copper, as it will kill every plant in my tank, so that leaves me to picking them out one at a time when I find them.

RATS!!!!!

Every night you can put a piece of vegetable in a glass jar. Every morning you can remove your victims!

Just keep at it. I stopped and within weeks had a few hundred :help:

I'm seeing a few in my new tank from some of the plants i transfered over so i'm going to try and keep this tank a little more under control but i better get to work.

I posted this somewhere else, but...

A co-worker has a heavily planted tank and likes to keep snails in it to help keep it clean. I asked what they do when the snails get out of control and they said they throw two small turtles in the tank. The turtles are small enough that they don't mess with the fish, but they eat the snails. Once the snail population is down, they take the turtles out.

Maybe this is something you can look into more.

That sounds like a plan, however, with my 4 otos, I think the vegtable in the jar would be consumed before a snail ever had a chance to get to it. I have 2 large gold mystery snails that would make short work of it as well...I"m doomed....LOL

I will just have to pick them out when I see them. I do keep a vigiliant watch over my tank, as I have been waiting to catch any signs of life from 2 kuhli loaches that I supposedly have in there.

Well, since I was looking for snails, I managed to catch a glimpse of my striped kuhli loach. Least I know that he is real and still alive. As for my black kuhli loach, haven't seen him in 2 months....I am sure he is alive, just well concealed. Lots of places to hide in my tank...so I just have to be patient.....

I use the zucchini thing to get the snails out, then I feed them to my DPs :19:

Look around at night. I grab a pair of binoculars at night, go into the other room and spy on my fish from 30 feet away whenever I want to watch either fish that never come out, breeding, or monitoring agression without disturbing the fish.

I have never had snail problems, but i know that loaches are good for snail problems. They will eat them. Of course though you need to have room in your tank. A group of 4 yoyo loaches would do it if you had room.
