The smell improves as the water quality imroves again. You can change some of the water in the aquarium to speed this process along.
make sure to clean up the bottom of the aquariam, and change the water. It should go away fast.
How long was the fish dead for? Mine never smell because we take the dead fish out as soon as we see it (within 1 day)

sometimes the tank will just reak of fish because it has becme stained with the scent. Only way to keep down on the smell is keep up with cleaning and filters.
Having an algae eater isnt that bad either.

Yes in my aquariam I had the same problem. I removed the fish and changed the water. But I noticed the stink kinda of lingered. I realized maybe I was washing the rocks, plants and other items well. So I really cleaned the items. The stink stopped after a while. I even changed the rocks every so often as to keep everything fresh.

If the stink is in fact coming from your water, then it is a pressing issue. id do a water test ASAP and check for NitrAte readings in particular. if all is well, I had a simalar problem once. the culprit was food lodged under the tank lid. it rotted and stunk up the whole room!!! check under the tank cover for food. :)
