I was at my LFS today to see if they could order in one of these ([Only Registered Users Can See Links.]) for me for my reef tan kI am getting set-up. They said they probably could but they also said that I could maybe use these ([Only Registered Users Can See Links.]) lights instead. I don't think that the repta sun light would be good for the fish or coral but they thought that I coul dmaybe use it. I told them I will think about it and I left.
What do you say?? I myself don't think they are good for what I need them for but I thought I would ask.

That has UVB content. If you don't have a UVB filtering lense, it could literally sun burn fish or corals, or so I've heard.
Just get the 50/50 instead.

Yup, I agree, leave the reptile bulb for the reptiles. As Drumachine mentioned, the UVB will actually burn the corals. I can't verify the fish, I don't know. But I do know that you need a UV filtering glass to use those.

Ok. I shall tell them at the LFS they are not able to be used.
I said to them that the UV stuff might affect the fish and coral and stuff but we both wern't really 100% sure. I also read the box and it said to not look at th elight directly as it is not good for your eyes. So that would be another reason why it wouldn't be good for fish and coral.
I've used the 50/50 Coralifes on a non-reef tank and they work well. Just make sure that they are providing the required watt/gallon your corals require. If you use two of the 20 watt 50/50s on a 10g tank, you're getting 4watts/gallon which is OK, but some corals need more.
