I can not believe that just happened. I was messing around pming some friends when I hear water trickling. I'm thinking okay just my filters. 30 seconds later it is louder and I'm thinking not my filters. I run to the tank and it is overflowing. There must have been 20 gallons of water on the floor...sigh. I was doing a water change and got sidetracked and completely forget.. Again do I really need to say..... IDIOT... My wife is po-ed lol... I had the shop vac out her first words coming down the stairs were "Good Morni.....What the #### is wrong with you!!!!" lol......
I have had a crazy week with tank changes lol..... Hope it starts to get better...

I can actually see myself doing that! When I got the a Python that was one of my first thoughts - "I'm so gonna flood the house with this thing!"
Sorry you're having to clean all that up. Hope you're wife isn't too upset.

I liked your early morning greeting from the wive. haha
I've been there/done that a time or two myself. OK......6 or 7! One time I dumped a bunch of water over the side of the tank directly onto the power cord. It started sparking and making some weird noises. I unplug the thing, turn the hair dryer on it to dry it out inside and melted it with the hair dryer. *sigh

Oh man! That SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS! Sorry to hear. At least you didn't lose any fish! We all have our moments too. I could probably stand to have 50 or so of the idiot badges myself. Sometimes your brain just stops working temporarily. Mine does that now and then for sure! :thumb:
I can think of many times where I've done something stupid, and even KNEW the potential risk, and when the "accident" happend, it was like watching in slow motion. You just kind of stand there looking at it during the seconds the "disaster" unfolds before your eyes, and it seems to happen in the slowest of slow motion. You almost freeze and by the time you react to try to stop it, its too late. LOL! Man I hate those moments!
Btw... I liked your wife's good morning comment too! LOL!

Sign me up for a badge... probably a few of them if you get a badge for each time.
How about the forget to turn off the powerhead or canister filter before draining your tank idiot award. That water sure does come out of the nozel fast.

Sign me up for at least 3 of those. I've overflowed my 125, and my 46 refilling it and I actually tired to siphon about 10 gallons into a 4 gallon bucket at one point. I understand the frustration.

It was funny Lady because she didn't even finish morning before she started the verbal badgering lol..... Everyone can laugh I have no problem. Idiot mistake deserves laughing at... That is the first time in 8-9 years I've had that happen. I've spilled water on the floor from buckets but never let the tank overflow lol..... The Oscars and GT were probably thinking huh cool we got a waterfall to play in now..thanks dad!!!.... :hmm3grin2orange:

That's the spirit! Nothing else matters... You don't need anything else. well, maybe a fridge full of beer.thumbs2:
...that must be a guy thing too...
My 12 year old son has been wanting a refridgerator in his bedroom since he was 4 years old...(he ain't gettin' one)...
...it starts with pop...and then moves on to beer...
Although my 18 year old son can't stomach beer - guess he's gonna be a rumandcoke fan down the road...

I just overflowed a bucket trying to fill it up this week. With my water heater being all wack Im not in my usual scedual and it messed me up.
Its amazing what shopvacs can do...I dont have a sweeper so I use my shop vac plus when one of my pipes busted it cleaned up the mess in the basement pretty well.

I've neglected or underestimated siphon hose speeds more than once. When the tanks are centralized in the basement it won't be a problem any longer. For now, I have stray pieces of linoleum under all the tanks that don't have concrete and a floor drain under them.

nothing beats when my fluval FX5 flooded.
in case you missed my thread from a few weeks ago, when i installed my FX5 i screwed up the hoses and had the intake where the output should be etc. when i went to switch them a hose fell and i never had the aquastop on, so gravity took over. i grabbed the nearest thing which was a 5g bucket and i figured since the FX5 can hold 5g i would be fine. i forgot about gravity and that the tank was draining, 30g of water on the floor later i got it running

I've spent more than a few nights on the couch myself....
Crazy stuff! Funny to hear, but it would suck to have happen... I feel for ya, J-Man! Especially the ear-beating! I know all about those! I know I could use a couple Idiot awards! As long as we all stay away from the Darwin Awards, we'll be fine.
Don't feel bad though. I remember someone saying recently (not sure if it was on this forum or not) that he was filling his tank, and needed to run to the store real quick. He figured he had pleanty of time to go and get back. Well, he ran into a friend at the store, and they went to get a couple beers to catch-up or whatever. Well a couple of beers later he remembered that his tank was filling. I'm sure you can guess the rest.
You're not alone! Idiots Unite! :thumb:
