i dont think this light is good enough for corals, but i thought i would check since i have one on my 29 fowlr, and if i can put a few low light corals, i would like to try. [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

Is that going on the 29? You could easily do some lower light corals like some LPS and even some soft corals with that fixture.

I always thought that if doing corals or reef aquariums that you needed blue actinic bulbs.

Just a thought.

nope. The Blue Actinic bulbs are mostly for looks and for deep tanks. There is something just not right looking about a reef tank with the yellowish look of 6700K bulbs over it. The depth is an issue becasue Blue is the deepest penetrating color in the spectrum so photosynthetic corals on the bottom of a deep tank will still get usable photons.

what is LPS? do i need to position the corals to the top of the aquarium so they get more light?

LPS = Long Polyp Stoney corals. Most of them require medium lighting. If you placed those high in the tank with that light they would do fine.
