heating cable

Hello there
I am setting up a new planted tank with a heating cable is it better to have a layer of sand on top of the cable before a complete substrate layer followed by gravel or to leave the sand out any views welcome

I'm just wondering why you're using a heating cable with your planted tank. But if you're set on using it, I wouldn't worry about the sand. It would actually reduce the effectiveness of the heating cable by reducing water flow through the substrate.
