View Full Version : Signatures getting too big.

When I start scrolling past more signature than post...I think it's time to address the signature issue. I luv 'em...but I think there should be size limit.

Rue.........thank you for bringing that up. My feelings exactly.

I wish there was a way to fit all of the info I want in my sig, and at te same time keep it compact, and thin. It would help alot to incourage members to not center their siggy content, and not have the rows on top of each other. I might go adjust my sig to fit the suggestions I have just posted.

If someone tells me how i can put a link to my photo albums in my link,Ill shorten my sig significantly!I want to do it like some others do here,I want to have the words my photos in bold color that is actually a link.Help me with it someone, please.

i thought there was a character limit to the sig??? Guess I was wrong or somethin. It does not bug me too much. A sig is a way to express yourself and show off what fish you have, I guess I haven't paid too much attention... typically, i overlook sigs anyways

i did notice mine looked a little on the big size and was planning on changing to a smaller sig :19: :19:

There is a character limit to the signatures, but some folks have it formatted to be quite long. reformatting is the easiest option instead of changing the limit.

It may be harder to do but If you want to list off different fish tanks you can do it horizontally instead of vertically.

Oh, man..

Good question.. LOL

Another member talked me through it a while back.. :)

I know tou go to user CP, and use the globe with the chain link going through it..

And you have to cut and paste the address of what you want in the link..

Try that but, hopefully somebody can chime in and walk you through it! LOL

I'd show you what the code looks like for mine, but it just turns into whatever the code does to it..

Yeah! You trend setter you! Man, was it hard to figure out how to do it too. I knew it was some type of html, but was unsure of the coding. Different codes than I am aware of, but figured it out none the less. :hmm3grin2orange:

Yeah yeah yeah... give me a moment and I can change colors too... be like a chameleon...lol but black is alright. I gotta be somewhat original.....

Now, to just find a way to anchor a blog. I have noticed in yours, every time you make an entry, it adds it to the top of your blog. So, if I want to post something else in my blog, it would move my sig down. That won't do at all......

I change the font size on mine to be smaller then normal. Then it doesn't take as much room and it stands out from the post.

NickFish

I've always had mine in really tiny font.
You can squeeze all the info in you want and still not take up too much space in a post.

How to do links with bold text and color.

Use this code: (remove all ")

["URL=yoururl]["b]["COLOR=Red]My Photos[/color]["/b]["/URL]

Change yoururl for the adress you want to link to.
Change red to the color you want to use.
Change My photos for the text you want to use.

Once you done that it creates a link like this.

Thanks everyone. (Now to get doug to stop double spacing. *haha)

How do you mean?

Adrian
03-10-2008, 01:40 AM
What do you mean? Why would it move your sig down?

Okay Doug, since you are on now, this is what I mean. I placed what I have in my tank on my blog. Got a pic of my tank there too. Now, if I were to place another entry into my blog, it takes the first one, and moves it down. Then I place another entry into my blog, and it moves that one down. Pretty soon, after I post enough entries into my blog, my signature is all the way at the bottom. All anyone sees then is the top few posts in my blog. My signature, being my very first blog, is all the way at the bottom. All new posts into the blog are at the very beginning of the blog. So, I lose. My blog is now just my signature.

doug z
03-10-2008, 02:47 AM
Ah, ok..

Well if you want your link to go to what you want to show, you should just have to change your url that you're linking to..

Then it will go to that, even though you have new entries..

At least, I think that will work..

Hey, I don't know if you ended up using ImageShack.us or not, but if so, why not just use the link that the image host gives you for your tank pic, instead of using your blog?

Just a thought...

Its great to see members seeing little probs like this, and bringing them up, a lot of it comes down to text size used in the signitures.

I like to see what people have in their tanks. It is easier to see than viewing every profile although I have looked at almost all the main peoples profiles....

I would put my links in a line across if I was smart enough. Maybe someone can help me out with it? Hint, hint? For some reason, for me they end up all over the place.......on the ceiling, on the floor....

I like having a reminder of what kind of tank everyone has - in case I have questions I have an idea of who might know...

But I don't need a list of every single fish they have...:14:

I do, too..

But in that case it's nice to just be able to click a link for those lists..

6-8 lines of 12 font would be adequate for both sides of the debate i think. I only see a few sigs over that size anyhow

this size:

03-18-2008, 09:07 PM
i suppose this whole siggy thing depends on the person screen size. A person with a small screen would get annoyed with the sigs. I got a 19" screen so there i dont really mind.

Just avoid as many columns as possible, guys. If you are listing a list of fish or tanks, you should use commas instead of giving each word/name their own line. I think this is the best all of us AC members can do.

^^^ Excellent idea

As far as screen size, if you wanna optimize that turn ur resolution up and then if you cant read the text well enough increase the font in ur web browser :)

Just my 2 cents if I may, and this is purely my personal opinion. But I find that the way Tigerbarb has her signature set up is rather hard to read. I agree that some of our signatures (mainly due to MTS) have gotten rather large, but if you use a smaller font such as myself or like Cocoa, I find it easier too read and it doesn't take up too much space.

Like I said though, just my personal opinion.

Rue
