This is probably a easy question but I know little on the larger cichlid varieties and have always been perplexed at the function of the fatty lump many cichlids grow on their heads as they get older.

Do most larger cichlids grow this? Is it only the males? Is it a sign of dominace, happiness or something else?

What exactly is the function of this strange fatty lump on their heads?

the lump is a sign that the fish was previously someone smart like einstein in a previous life. lol

i think its males or something that get it, my red devil has a small bump and i think its a female though
