Thanks,

Ive been to 2 bird sales in the past 2 weeks, got some good deals and seen some high priced birds (11.000+), at one of these sales, a quaker mutation got loose, my mate who has been in to birds for a long time, estimated its value at around $2000, if I lost a $5 bird I would cry:help:

My weather here is crummmmmmmy. It is snowing and blowing like crazy. We have soooo much snow. I wish that it would all just go away.

NickFish

2' of snow expected between 5:00-9:00pm

Can't even get out of our door how it is now, in the next couple hours we're in trouble.

Well, I am officially freezing my tail off. It is 64 degrees farenheit here, and I have on a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, sweater, and socks on my feet, and I am still cold. This is crazy! Normally this time of year, low 80's and I am in shorts and a t-shirt. This is March, right? Well, on the bright side of things, we don't often get cooler temps in florida, so I am happy about it. Come summertime, I will wish I was up north where you all are. The heat and humidity is outrageous in the summer. Did I mention storms? Lightning capital of the world here. We get some storms too, but I relish the beginnings of fall when there is a possibility of hurricanes. A few years back it was really close to the house, and the pressure dropped so much, it was a wild ride! If I stood by the toliet, I could actually watch the water swish back and forth in the bowl, and no one had flushed it. Whole house was moving slightly due to the wind.

Ah the life of florida. Take the good with the bad.

We had a beautiful day! Snow is melting...the only bad thing about that (other than the mud) is the state of my yard...a winter's worth of doggy doo-doo is coming to light *gag*.

My new parrot (African Grey) is talking up a storm:

"Get down! Get down!"
"Come here!"
"Want some apple? Apple? Apple?"
"Want some cheese? Cheese? Cheese?"
"Wanna come out?"
"Hello? Hello?"

...and other phrases interspersed with beeps, whistles and knocks :1luvu:

I got a package of new bird toys in the mail today. I'm looking forward to seeing who will play with which toys tonight when I let them out for the evening (3 larger parrots and 3 cockatiels).

I also fed my cockroaches grapes for the first time...they don't seem impressed.

...this afternoon I take both my 18 year old son and my 15 year old daughter to the dentist to have their wisdom teeth removed...

...kinda funny...like they were having a two-for sale at the clinic!

Hope nobody vomits in the car on the way home...

Rue

Cool! :thumb:

I'm not 100% as to sex. We're quite sure she's a she. She's dainty, has a more feminine head shape, etc. She also acts female, if you know what I mean. But without a DNA test I can't be certain. However, we're calling her a 'her' . She didn't come with a name, so we named her Nickel.

Do you have pictures of Penny? (We seem to have a currency theme going with the names thumbs2: ).

how to sex a male and female, if your parrot is all for you then shes definatly a female but if shes all for your partner then shes a male, ours loves my husband she will do anything with him,me different matter i could loses several fingers and its me thats treats her and cleans her out but still my husband gets the benifits, ours is 10 years old and weve had her for 8,the attachment below shows her in her cage,my husbands not in so im not taking any chances :hmm3grin2orange: if you need any help with her im happy to help, ours is an orangatang has you can see in attachment,

LOL...so's mine. Yesterday she threw herself off the top of the couch and landed on my shoulder (I was lying down) - on her back! She likes to wrestle. What a nutbar!

Well, she came to us preferring men. And I think, if they reciprocated or were around more, she might prefer my husband or my older son. But lacking that interaction, she's my girl! :1luvu: I realize that may change down the road, which is fine by me, my other two parrots (Amazon and Pionus) are all mine! They tolerate the other family members, but want me to hang out with!

If I have any questions! I'll be asking! Hope you won't be sorry you offered! :hmm3grin2orange:

Rue

Thanks! She's young! Only 3 years old. Her previous owners didn't want her anymore and put her in the laundry room. She started plucking. I'm hoping with all the activing around here...and never having to be alone (the other birds and critters are always around), she'll let the feather grow in with the coming spring moult.

angelcakes
03-10-2008, 09:03 PM
thats really sad,but it sounds like shes gone to a good home, the feathers shouldn't take long to grow, good diet will sort it,sausage(not all the sausage) is good for them too but only twice max a week, mine loves raw carrot but gets hypo after it,:laugh1blue:

I've found one of my Indian ringnecks favourite friuts is rockmelon, they also get, carrot, grapes, mixed veggies, and love to chew the grissly bit on the end of a chicken bone (though I don't give them that very often).
The smaller parrots don't seem to eat the friut and veggies as much.

I have never tried sausage, what type of sausage do you give them?

angelcakes
03-10-2008, 11:20 PM
normal pork sausage,i normally give mine about an inch of the sausage, ours will eat anything thats avaliable:14: ,apprently the only thing you cant give her is mushrooms there supposed to be poisonus to her,i have no idea but have stayed away from them to be safe,:19:

angelcakes
03-10-2008, 11:21 PM
forgot the chicken bone is a good one ours eats the middle them throws the rest at the dog :laugh1blue:

Avacado is another big no no, and I think cabbage is not good either, definately no chocolate either.

If we sit down to a meal, the ringneck will talk non stop, then start screaching untill he gets a treat, he is to spoiled.

angelcakes
03-11-2008, 08:47 AM
that sounds about right, our bird sits there when were eating going ear! and asking if its nice ours is also spoilt, finally shuts up when shes eating:hmm3grin2orange:
