I tried it once and dropped it after 2 classes I think. Its been the best sport he's ever tried. He really loves it and he's really good at it too! I'm amazed that he can do those moves so well and he's only 5. Oh and yes, I'm beaming with pride today!

Congrats!

Which martial art?

Have you heard of TuKong? Its a South Korean martial art. I'd never heard of it but got a good recommendation from a mom friend of mine so we tried it.

No, I haven't.. Which is weird because the martial art I'm into is Korean as well (Hapkido)..

Is it all joint manipulation and throws like Aikido? Strikes, kicks like Karate, Taekwando? Or a mix of everything, like Hapkido?

Hopefuly the teacher is a traditionalist, and doesn't put up with any nonsense..

Kids especially learn so much about discipline and respect..

My kids are still way too immature, and they're 4 and 7..

Wish they'd smarten up so I could get them into organized martial arts..

Pretty cool! I teach tae kwon do. In his school, is yellow the second belt? And for anyone in southern california, I know of a great place if you want to learn tae kwon do. Just ask,

Its pretty close to karate with kicks, punches, rolls to get away etc. The discipline and respect aspect of it is a big focus of the classes and the teacher does NOT put up with nonsense. My son has gotten a lot out of it and I can see he's matured a lot since he started in it 3 months ago. I'm pretty sure that the martial arts have been partly responsible for that.

Yes, yellow is the second belt. He just started in Dec. as a white belt.

WOW! That's great you're so close to Black belt! How long before you can test for Black? I saw a little kid at the test last night get his black belt. He was amazing! His parents were in tears they were so happy.

I bet she will like it. It looks to me like the kids have a blast. I love watching those tiny little ones doing jump front kicks! Its just precious.

We tried gymnastics and soccer with only little interest but the martial arts have been like a perfect fit for my son. Sometimes you have to keep trying stuff until you hit on something they'll keep enjoying and not want to quit after 3 or 4 classes. I really hope he'll go on to get his black belt. I will feel reassured that he'll be able to protect himself if he ever needs to.

Nice, congrats to him, I wish I would have been able to go that far, but I broke both my ankles and had to give it up for a few to heal up, and never went back.

now I am old and fat lol...

tell him to keep up the great work that goes into this sport...
