Is there such a thing as too much filtration? I just bought a Hagen Aqua-Clear 70 for my 37 gallon tank.

Lemme tell yah, this thing can move some water! Only bad thing, is it is noiser than my whisper 40.

Does it settle down after the break in period? And is this too much for my 37 gallon tank?

That is just about right... I have an AC70 on my 37 gallon... They are tall so not as much of a worry. I am running an AC50 on a 10 gallon right now trying to get it to cycle fast lol...... It spiked nitrites in one day..... (it was previously established off my brothers 30 gallon of course....

I have an AC 70 on my 29g. So if you have too much filtration, then I have way too much. Which setting do you have it on? There is two settings, try switching switching the settings. If that doesn't help just let it run for awhile and see if it quiets down. My AC70 is only loud when my water level is down.

Whoa! Bet the fish are hangin ten on the surf. Must be a wild ride for em. I do like this filter better, as it is easier to maintain. I do have some questions on this filter though.

1.) Instead of carbon, what can I use?

2.) It says to replace the sponge every 3 months, which I would rather not do, any suggestions on this?

3.) The bio max, does that ever need to be cleaned or replaced? Or can that be left alone?

I'm kinda excited about this new filter....thanks guys!

Take out the carbon and add extra biomax.....

I just rinse my sponge in tank water once a month. I have had my AC110 sponge running for over a year in there no problems..
3.) The bio max, does that ever need to be cleaned or replaced? Or can that be left alone?
I do change my biomax... I run two bags in my 37 gallon. I'll change one bag every two months...

I'm kinda excited about this new filter....thanks guys!

I did the samething with the carbon by buying a new thing of biomax to replace it like jbeining75. I just alternate when I clean each media.
