I use peat to soften my water and to lower the pH and to add that great coloration (tannins). I have been using Fluval peat granules but have noticed that Fluval has discontinued this item. Does anyone know where I can aquarium safe peat that I can use in it's stead and that is readily available? Shops, websites, etc....

Thanks,
Jey

You can use the peat you find at garden stores, just make sure it is 100% spagnum peat moss with no ferts or anything. I would steer away from the schultz brand because i tried it and no tannins were released.

I use 100% spagnum peat moss (canadian peat moss is one of the best) I bought a huge bag, will do for some time, my discus tank is currently buffering at 6.8 and the tannins in the water are beautiful. I simply bag the peat moss, then wash the bag really well to get all the loose debris off then in the tank it goes. I hope this helps :)
