picked up another oscar. i think its a tiger and possibly female, not for sure.
moved it away from the window, and got a nice plecko about 10" long

Looks like a tiger to me, i really like your red Oscar and how big is that tank?

its only a 48 gal tank 48x12x18... i think... and how would they act if they were oposite sex... my red seems to be rubbing up against the tiger and then kinda biteing at her... or is she even a she?

it has quite a very steep head so i would in my opion think it is most likely a she, is he pushing her or just nipping her?

goomer416

a lil bit of both. sometimes he just pushes her and rubs against her, and then other times he has his mouth open and pushes her.. and then she will swim around kinda upright, like on her tail sort of. and she doesnt fight back either then she like shakes her tail really fast

p.s when i put my hand in to move the rocks for the plecko, he started to shake his tail at me.

Nice looking oscars ya got there...but I hope you are ready for major tank maintenance....we have 2 eight inch oscars with an 11 inch pleco in a 90 gallon and it is messy! I also hope you plan on setting up a bigger tank in the future...not too many oscar lovers would recommend 48 gal for 2, plus a pleco. I believe from when hubby was researching the recommendation is 55 gal for 1.

Although those to oscars happen to be 10" i believe and that tank looks quite larger then a 48 gal or 55

yah got it at a discount thing.. so might be bigger.. they seem to be doing fine in it right now??? talked to someone about the breeding things, and i guess what the 2 are doing is actually normal... wasnt sure if they were hurting each other or being aggressive.. pleckos doing fine, last one this size was killed but i think because Red(the male) has the other oscar, he isnt payin too much attention to much else haha.

thanks for the input!! i really appreciate it

Tank looks good. I would try and figure out how big it is, because for two oscars and a pleco i would go with a 125gal at the minimum. Your tank looks alrite for now. As for the aggresion issues, your Red O is just establishing is dominance over his new tank mate. This should be over in a few days.

Those are the dimensions of a 55 gallon. You might want to upgrade in the near future. you seem alright for now judging by the pictures

To be honest it seriously looks more then that, like ive seen 180 gallons that have oscars that size in them and the oscars take up thet same amount of room in 180 gal as they do in that pic

goomer416

i dunno im just going on what i was told... and at least he seems to be paying more attention to the tiger then the pleco.. so maybe the pleco will be able to stay alive long enough lol

Yea, although those are the dimensions fo a 55, the tank looks at least double that size.

yeah its long and high... but not very deep... however im already lookign into getting a 150 gal tank... should be more then large enough for them i would think

Severus

Yea that would be a good size for them. Nice canister filter, etc...

And your lucky, usually its hard to get to large oscars to coexsist in the same tank all of a sudden

Severus
10-13-2006, 01:52 PM
Yea, do you have any major dominance issues anymore?

goomer416
10-13-2006, 06:52 PM
at first yeah the one who was already in here was a bit aggressive..but when i talked to my girlfriends uncle he said the things they are doing now are somewhat breeding things.. they dont hurt each other or anything...

Severus

I had to get rid of an Albino oscar because he felt it necersary to try and kill my larger oscar that was fighting back and beating him to a pulp but now Finn and my tiger oscar Devil are fine together

I think it is pretty cool how Oscars have such a personality and one can be the complete opposite of another

unforunitly the only catch to getting that 150 gal tank is he wants me to take his 9" albino tiger... but i think he would be more then happy in that 48 wouldn't he? or would the 150 be big enough for all 3... its over twice the size as the one i have now...???

Severus

I think most would agree that a 150gal would be sufficient for 3 Oscars. Each fish would have roughly 50 gallons to himself which is pretty good. You are gonna have to keep on top of your water parameters and make sure the tank stays clean. Hopefully things go well with the introduction of the Albino, he is about the same size as your two guys so it should be alrite. Good luck with everything

i think its gonna be hard tho... with the 2 being a mating pair now.... i think ill just keep the 2 in the 150 gal and put the albino in the 48... or something like that... i think that would work out better... then just buy a couple heaters and nice filter for the 150

Severus
10-18-2006, 04:03 AM
Yea, that is true, i forgot you had a mating pair... tough decision

i have looked up a bunch of different sites and they all say the same thing... and they r fallowing everything... unless im reading faulse info... but yeah i can give it a go and see what happens... cant hurt to try and the tank would look really nice with all three of them in it:hmm3grin2orange:

Either way its good because if u get a mating pair you got alot of babies to come and if they arent and they are the same sex, and you add the third one they might pair up

Severus
10-18-2006, 10:10 PM
Yea, a tank with 3 big Oscars wouldbe pretty impressive

You got the right idea with that.
