What kind of fish are you putting in the tank?

Putting limestone into your tank will cause the pH to get more alkaline and the hardness/alkalinity to go up, potentially a lot.

Unless you have fish that like high hardness and a pH around 8.2-8.5, it's probably not a good idea.

As for cleaning it goes, boil it in water if it's not too big to put into a pot. If it's larger than your biggest pot, you can try pouring pot after pot of boiling water on it.

You can also try brushing it with a 1/10 bleach solution. Scrub it down hard and then rinse it. Then put it into a large container where you can submerge it in water. Let the bleach leach out for at least two days with two water changes per day, ideally with dechlorinator.

dolomite will buffer the PH up high, in the mid 8 range, dolomite is best for reefs or african tanks
