View Full Version : moving my base layer

when I recently moved my tank, I tried to keep the rocks in layers. I have about 3 in. flourite base and then an inch of rocks from my LFS. My question is...

When I moved the rocks around I kept the layers, but a lot of gunk (for lack of a better term) was rinsed out of it when I filled my tank back up. Did this take the nutrients out of my base layer? If so what can I do to replenish it, without having to drain all of the water.

I'm just curious, because my plants are not looking good, and they use to boom in my tank. Granted it has only been a week, I'm just trying to troubleshoot my tank.

Thanks for the help!

The "gunk" is mulm, decaying matter that has gotten into the substrate. Use fertilizers until the mulm layer is boosted again. Time will allow this.
