Cheap(er) lighting.

Since my plants are doing so well with the current lighting I was looking for some similar lighting that I could upgrade to without getting in to T5, compact fluorescent for aquariums, etc. I finally found what I was looking for, reptile lighting. Zoo Med has economy strips with just incandescent fixtures (can use screw-in compact fluorescent bulbs for household use like my 40breeder) and a combination fixture that has the incandescents and a fluorescent fixture. And with the most expensive (48" combo light) at only $65 it is cheaper than other options such as the T5s or CFs.

I just thought I would share for those considering upgrading lighting. You can look through online reptile suppliers to see, or check out Zoo Med's site.

Those are great fixtures, I use them on my gecko tanks.

For 48" tanks I use shop lights with GE Aquarium/Plant bulbs 9325k

Where do you get the GE bulbs? I have heard they are the best. I was thinking of trying them next time. How much do they usually run? T12? How is the look of them in the tank? Too red? Too yellow? That is one thing I like about the 50/50s I have, a very good balance of color.

They have a little bit of a pink tinge but you get used to it.
I get mine at Lowes, T12, The are sold as "Aquarium/Plant bulbs around $8.50 ea

Try one in the fixture, if its to red, put a 6500 in the other side get them at Lowes also

Thats the thing I dont like so much about the GE bulbs. The color. Its like cold purple.
