Nicaraguense Cichlid

I ordered a Female Nicaraguense. I am afraid I got a male. The fish is about 4-5 inches (bigger then I wanted). It is greyish with a very dark black line from eye to tail.
But I heard it is the females that has good color. Could some one please descride the male and female in detail to me. I don't want a male because I understand they get to be an average of 3 inches bigger then the female.
