5884 Just bought the liner, pump and filter today. Will try to get all the plumbing and electrical done by the weekend. I'm going to put stacked stone on the outside of the pond. I've been so excited about this I can barely sleep. More pic's to come.

Tigerbarb............. I will say this. The pic's I showed didn't quite show the remainder of the framing I did. I filled the pond over the weekend and was happy to see my design worked out solid. If you build it wood frame as I did, you have to take special car with the top and bottom plate framing and the way you install the plywood. With the pond being approx. 33" tall there is a huge amount of pressure in the middle of the long wall. I you decide to build feel free to PM me about the construction part of it.6261

That's looking great, what are you going to skin it with and cap the top rails?

I'm putting slate tiles on the walls and a stone cap.

Looks really cool. What are the dimensions ... you mentionned 33" high, what about length and width?

For a long time I've wanted to to an above ground display tank for a indigenous species tank ... it would have to be indoors 'cause of the winters around here, but a wood frame would probably be less expensive than a acrylic tank.

Looks great ... keep us posted on the progress.

Hope you cement footing is good and thick. That's a whole heck of a lot of water.

Did you just use the concrete as your floor? Or did you frame that as well? How close together are the studs on the walls? What is the thickness of the plywood on the interior and exterior?

Yeah I just re-did the entire back yard a year and a half before. The slab is 6" inches thick. The walls are 2x4 construction on 16" centers. I double plated the top and bottom and overlapped the plating in the corners. Also bolted plates down to slab using tapcons. Shear panel plywood is 5/8" construction shear on the outside and 3/4" plywood on the inside, nailed every 6" inches. I've attached a some of pic's of finished pond. I used 3x6 beams with rabbited ends on the outside, enterlocking the corners and then drilling through and placing a 3/4" rod to lock corners together.

Does the whole pond have a roof over it? I can't tell from the pictures. Are you worried about rain getting at the plywood?

3/4 of the pond is covered by my patio cover, while the last 1/4 is in the elements. Thats where I put the pond plants (water lilies, water lettuce, ect...) that help with water quality a lot. None of the plywood is exposed. Interior ply is covered by the liner and the outside has a weather membrain on it as well as the finish beams I covered the outside with. Rain is not an issue. All exterior wood has a wood sealer called superdeck on it which is a great product for that purpose and has a long life. The pond has been great. my only regret is that I couldn't make it about 3 times bigger. My fish absolutely love it.
