I've just been informed that these fish are prone to disease?

Has this been your experience?

Thoughts?

I'm sure the health they are on upon purchase, and the diet they receive after is huge..

I'll be sure to cover my bases, there..

What do you feed them for a staple, and treats?

staple is flakes and pellets, treats is bloodworm

whoever told you that dwarfs are prone to disease is wrong

That's good to hear.....

You do the Hikari micropellets, or that other stuff.. NLS?

I don't think I'll bother with flakes..

I hear there's potential digestion problems (bloating) with them..

I read it some were that dwarfs are prone to disease, and I had my two females turn colors on me for about a week, but they are coming back very nicely.. I love the dwarfs, and I am working on breeding them..

I feed mine flakes and brine shrimp..

Edit I should add, I do need to fine better food for all of my fish...

Dwarfs need extremely clean water. If that is met, they are easy to care for. However, they are easy to infections and diseases. Meaning, if you have a fish in the tank that is able to ward of something, but still has it, you can not add the gourami to the tank, as it will come down with it. They do not have that great of an immune system. What other fish can fight off, the gourami can not.

That is true Ive saw alot of people who took very good care of their tanks end up with alot of problems with their gouramis. I dont think you where around when abbeys_mom was around but she had tanks full of gouramis and Lost alot of them from disease she kept her tanks up really well but then stull ended up with problems.

Im not telling you not to get them I just wanted to prewarn that way you can make a good selection on what fish you want.

Yeah, I guess I can only get them and pray..

I can't really think off-hand what a better choice would be..

If you take good care of your tank, there should not be any problem. I would worry more about which kind of dwarf gourami to choose. I would like to have all of them.

Dwarf gourami, honey dwarf gourami, neon blue dwarf gourami, powder blue dwarf gourami are but a few of the dwarf series.

I think there are more, but that is just off the top of my head. Just remember one thing. Weak immune systems.

If you keep healthy fish, you should be fine. Just make sure that if you add any other fish AFTER the gourami is in the tank, that you make sure it doesn't have any disease on it.
