i haven't got a timer yet for my 3g and tomorrow i will be gone for at least 12 hours, probably more.
my options are leave the lights off or leave them on from 7:45am- probably midnight or later.
i have java moss, pearl weed, and one dwarf sag.
it's my friends b-day so after work i will being going out and will not have time to come home and turn them off and i don't have a room-mate.
i promise i will get a timer tomorrow.

If you're only going to be gone for a day, I don't think killing your lights for one day will hurt anything.

no light isnt a issue, some people in planted tanks blackout all light for 2 days to kill algae and the plants are fine.

same with reefs, people with algae blackout the tanks for 3 or sometimes 4 days and the corals make it

Either light or no light, you should be fine. I would go with no light though.

I would leave the lights off rather than on... the plants will be fine :19:
