:help: My son got a fish from out pet store as a donation. They couldn't say for certain it was a guppy as the tank was labeled. They gave it to him as a donation for this reason. The store rep said he was fairly certain it was a guppy and possibly pregnant. Now I am thinking it to be a gambusia. She has a gravid spot that is black at times and at times turns bright orange with some black speckles. This usually only occurs at night. It currently is black again. I am completely confused with this fish. We have it in a 10 gallon tank with 3 zebra danio's and a male guppy. So I am fairly certain it isn't harming anyone being in the tank. The m. guppy actually follows her everywhere so they aren't fighting. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I have attached pics of the fish with both the black gravid spot and orange gravid spot. Thanks

Yup, thats a guppy. A female too. And I lay you odds, 10 to 1 she is probably pregnant.

good luck with the fry. my female guppy chowed down on her offspring. :/ not sure how the whole guppy thing works, so hope you figure it out before her big day! :)

She looks like she'll drop the fry in another week or two, buts it is very hard to tell. All guppies are different in pregancy patterns.
Good luck with the fry, there will be many more on the way, guppies breed non-stop!

I went to the store to pick up two more female guppy as was suggested to me and I ended up with a gigantically pregnant female so I think either the one I've been posting about is young and on her first fry litter or she is early in her pregnancy. I will let you all know how this turns out. Thanks for all your help!:22:

If you want to save the babies I would buy a breeders net that hangs on the side of the aquarium. guppies will eat their young so watch your tank closely. you almost have to get the fry away from the parents as soon as they pop out to make sure they dont get eaten.
Another thing that might save your young is if you get alot of fake plants(if you dont have any live plants). That will give the fry a place to hide away from the parents. My sister has a guppy tank and her fry live without her feeding them anything special, so the fry wont be to hard to take care of good luck!
