Ordering fish online?

Hello all,

As I wander the WWW for fish info and ideas, I keep seeing sites with people selling fish online and shipping them through the mail. Has anyone ever done that before with success? I know if I was shoved in a box and shipped half way across the country, I would be way more than stressed!! Especially with our mailman! He's one step better than the mailman from the movie "Funny Farm"!!

All fish in aquarium shops have been shipped, some from other parts of the world. They go from holding tanks, to a wholesaler, to an importer, and to a jobber who sells the fish to the retail stores. So that neon tetra in the shop could have traveled 10,000 miles in shipping containers.
Thus, there is nothing wrong with having fish shipped overnight to you in the mail. Most online folks ship FedEx overnight, which will run you thirty to 40 dollars.
That's said, some of the rarest fish you'll never see in pet stores are available online.
Just FYI, the two sites I frequent the most of stock are fish2U.com ([Only Registered Users Can See Links.]) and liveaquaria.com ([Only Registered Users Can See Links.]). I've bought from those sites for years.

Thanks Dave, I know they are shipped from all over, but I just figured that they would use larger quantities and packages shipped by more professional carriers, so if you have some not make it its no biggie. But when you order just a few and ship via a jabrone who hates his job, the success rate would be lower. Just my thoughts.

The only site I have ever bought fish from is liveaquaria.
They are ok.

You will have to pay quite a bit for proper shipping though, and therefore I only buy rare fish online that I can't find in any petstore near me.

Another option if there is enough interest is to get a group order together with fellow hobbiests in your area, ang get the shipped shipped via an airline. Then you just divie up the shipping charges amongst the purchasers. We do that quite often from a supplier in Winnipeg and get a big order flown to Saskatoon.

i checked out both those sites and they only send inside the US. What about for Canada? Does anyone know of any good sites???
