I dont get why you guys are saying this stuff.. The pleco was eating some frozen fish, a piranha came over and tried to steal it and the pleco defended it..What did the piranha do that was so bad?

And some people do keep their piranhas with their plecos. Not sure if you guys thought the pleco was being used as a feeder or something..

Never seen something like this. I alwasy thought Piranhas were very aggressive with everything and I was thinking the pleco was going to be ripped apart any second. That Pleco looked like a monster in that tank, were the Pirahna afraid of him?

i had no idea you could keep other fish with pihrannas.
i thought they just eat everything that moves.

Sometimes the piranha will not see other fish as a food source if the pleco was bigger than them when they were put into the tank. Also some people never feed their piranha live food, beef heart chicken etc, so they don't associate other fish with being a food source.

One of my plecos used to go all over one of my gouramis when it tried to eat its pellets.

I think that they are very temperamental when it comes to food/feeding time.

Piranha have gotten this kind of reputation. Normally in the wild they will attack seasonally, (wet/dry season) and depending on how hungry they are. My guys don't strike at my hand when I'm cleaning their tank...although i do make sure they are well fed before hand.

Piranha have gotten this kind of reputation. Normally in the wild they will attack seasonally, (wet/dry season) and depending on how hungry they are. My guys don't strike at my hand when I'm cleaning their tank...although i do make sure they are well fed before hand.

My guy is the same, at the lfs they fed him live feedes ONLY. He would charge at them and leave the head floating as a "trophy". I have never fed him live food but once had to put a guppy in his tank for a week and it got out fine. I dont really always feed before putting my hand in, but never really cautious. He barely comes out to see me, but once, AFTER feeding, I was adding in a plant and he just rammed my hand making a small cut on both my index fingers.

I read in the comments that Pirahnas will slowly nip at Pleco's. Eventually the Pleco will die from infection, disease or extreme stress.
