my two year old found a really pretty rock at the beach this morning. (we had breakfast on the beach, i needed to clear my head with their dad being gone and all) But I know I would have to boil it if I can put it in with my goldfish. Is this okay??

I don't boil my rocks in case they crack or explode but I do bring the water up to a boil. Then let it cool for a few minutes then place scrubbed rock in there to soak for about an hour. That is hot enough to kill any bad buggies. Then once it's cooled off enough to take out I soak in dechlorinated water for a while. Then they are good to go.

After cleaning it and before putting in with your daughter's goldfish, please do the vinegar test as cocoa recommended. If it, the vinegar on the rock, bubbles you don't want to put it in with your goldfish.

I gotta wait for summer before I can do my rock hunting.. :)
It'll most likely be shale..
And there's some pretty wicked petrified wood on Ebay..
