what is the smartest fish that you can get in your home aquarium ? surely Oscars would have to be right up there ? my 2 oscars seem to be fair more intelligent than my other fish and I was wondering if there are any fish out there
that you can get in a home aquarium that is smarter than an Oscar ?

What are the smartest fish.........any fish smart enough not to get caught for the aquarium industry.
I have never had any oscars to make a comparison to ....but my frontosa seem to be the most intelligent fish I have.

I find that yellow cichlids look at me like I am an idiot lol. They have a look in their eyes that makes them seem really smart.

I think my corys are pretty smart. Even though they are nocturnal, they search for food during the day when I open the hood to feed my other fishes.

I've heard that severums are pretty darn smart. I'm sort of kicking myself not getting a 40 long so I could keep one :ssad:.

my betta is super smart, i feed him by hand now. and he comes to me when i click my nails on the glass. he rests against the tank so i can pet him through the glass and Im convinced he knows his name lol
My goldfish do respond to the clicking as well and can all be hand fed. i think most fish are pretty bright

I know I'm in an old thread here, but I'd like to say that as a proud elephant nose owner, I agree that its intelligence is impressive, although I don't get to see him as much as I'd like, he won't come out with the lights on.. but he goes INSANE for frozen bloodworms...
2nd would have to be my angel.. he acts differently towards me than my wife.. he knows I'm the one who feeds him.

I gotta agree my betta comes right up to the front of the tank when I get near it. When I come out of my room in the morning he's already following me around, follows my hand around when I open up the lid, knows food is about to come.

My gourami seems to be smartER than my tetras. That's as much of a statement as I'm willing to make :)

I'm going with oscars... since I've had limited fish encounters and since it only took my oscars like five minutes to realize the laser pointer was coming from me, when my cats never figure it out.
That made me think.
My Angel seems to be quite smart. The same as my J. Marlies.

Yup extremely rewarding experience....good party trick too thumbs2:
My female betta is smarter than my males and can jump quit a lot higher. On the topic of fish intelligence my platies are some of the stupid fish. When I put my hands in the tank they bite me none stop. When I open the lid they bite the surface of the water and make little bubbles. They did give my little cousin quite a fright when he try to put his hand in the tank. I lucky they are not piranhas.....I love those stupid basters:1luvu:

My platys are pretty smart but only when it comes to food. They know that I mean food and can even tell the difference between me and my gf. For me they get all excited at the surface while for her they dont pay much attention since I am the one that feeds them. My corys and otos ignore me because I dont feed them directly. I am convinced all fish are smart when it comes to food.
