RainMan

Not that size matters... so, they say. I'm just curious... how much did it cost, material, where did it come from?

Not sure how bigs dave's tank is but if cocoa has his 650 yet it would be quite the contender.

Mines the 72 gallon I got for $20. thumbs2:

Woh... 650 gallons. I've seen a 500g in someone's house before. It was built into the wall and they had a separate room for access to the rear. He also had to pour an extra cement footing in his basement too hold it up. I thought that was crazy.

What are the dimensions for that sucka? It has to be over 8ft right?
What size is dave's and who is cocoa?

My biggest is a 125 but I am in the planning stages of setting up a 8 ft 240 in the basement hopefully this summer.

Dave's got a bunch of tanks over 200.. Mine is 55 gallons as I just moved from Hawaii to Maryland. I had a 220 in Hawaii. They are too tall and horrible to clean, you gotta stand on a ladder and stick your entire arm in to get to the gravel......

My largest at the moment is 165 Gallons and I had it custom made... being in the living room the wood etc. all had to match the interior - women huh? LOL

lol jess, when I was setting up my 55G my mom told me to get some substrate that matches the couch. You women and color co-ordinating!

Cocoa would be cocoa_pleco, he'll likely post here sooner or later. As you spend time here you'll learn everyones name, and then thier real names. Like a big happy family!

im still goin for the 650g, 1 arowana, the 2 pacu, and the red devil.

biggest tank currently is my 90g. bought the tank new $350 for $90 on boxing day, got 2 fluval FX5 for $500, stand from big als for $170, 2x54w T-5 light for $120, etc.

the 650g will have 2 260w PC light fixtures with moonlights, i can get the fixtures for $99 each new (have one on my reef). filtration will be a 100g sump and a fluval XP5. i think im gonna go with acrylic for it, for a tank that large i would be stressing a leak with glass

Well that's the trick. For sure will be 2 common plecos and 2 gold tinfoil barbs (outgrowing their current tanks). Will add an oscar and maybe a leoporinus. Not sure beyond that though. I'll be posting a thread for suggestions soon!

I can't believe how cheap people get their tanks. I was at the petstore last weekend... they had a nice 120g for $650. A simple 90g was over $200.

So far 650g is the winner. Sorry... what were the dimmensions on that Cocoa?

I talked to that guy a few years ago, he's had it set up for 8 years now I believe, he only expects it to hold water for 10 years at the most, and he still paid over $100 000 for it.
He has a ton of fish in there, but my favourite is the arapaima. 12 feet long and still growing! Thats a huge fish!

Hah! When the tank starts leaking and he has to build a new one that is going to be a interesting fish transfer. I could only imagine having to get some people to scuba and net that beast :hmm3grin2orange:!

RainMan
02-13-2008, 09:18 PM
Yeah... can you imagine the holding tank for those fish while he is rebuilding that tank? I can't even imagine a 10,000g water change. I hate even doing a 20g change. Although, my tap water isn't safe for my fish. To many metals and other crap. so, I have to hunt down 5g bottles of water.

But, the logistics of that entire tank, just blows my mind.

RainMan

That's huge... what kind of structure is it going in? Are you custom building it? Or is it from a manufacturer?

My biggest is a 40g for 18$.

How do you get a 100g for that cheap? Is that with hood and lights? Is it just pet stores around my area? Because even the glass for 100g would cost more than $100 smackers. :(

They need to get multi-quotes for this forum. hehe

No just the bare tank. well here a square meter of 10mm glass cost just about $15 so the tank is cheaper.
but the bad things here are more than goods! for example theres no NLS, Hikari, fluval, API, etc and no online shipping here. so you are not that unlucky ;)

Dave is now taking the lead with a 720g... I'm going to post that in my op so people coming in will know who the real masters are. LOL

I'll post cocoas as 2nd... even though it's not setup. If I have time in the fugure, I'll list some of the smaller tanks... maybe larger than 100g.

God, those are some huge tanks. I don't think I would have a house left, if I tried putting in one of those. <thinks a moment> Hmm, turning my 10,000 plus gallon swimming pool into a tank?, would that count?> LOL, couldn't do that, so I am left with my 37 gallon, though had a 125 for a bit. Then had to move and lost it. <shrugs> Have to say that I am a light weight here.

Mine are only babies too, I have 2 55G, but they didn't cost me anything I swapped a HUGE 3m (118") x I think 1m (39") x .9m (35.5") for them. I got given the big tank by a lady who's son had had it, but he died and it had been sitting in the shed for 10 years. I didn't know whether it leaked or anything, and I didn't have anywhere to put it as I had wooden floors, so swapped one of the LFS for 2 tanks to fit either side of the fireplace, the big tank apparently leaked like a sieve when they tried to fill it, so I probably didn't do too badly out of it, even if 2 55G where not much compared to it! But planning another BIG one, think it'll be about 550G.

That's almost 750g... that is a big sucka. I think you did okay with the 2 55g tanks. You can have 2 completely different setups and it's easier to manage.

It certainly is! My hubby wanted to buy a spa kit and turn the other big tank into a spa, or floatation tank like the one on the Simpsons that Homer goes for a ride in, only problem with that was that it was "sensory deprivation" cause you can see through glass! LOL

After reading a couple of the post here, think I'll stick with my new planning tank of only being 70cm tall, because I don't have scuba gear to clean it, unlike JB! LOL
