It really breaks my heart to see him trying to get food when i put flakes in for the Acaras, Oscars and Convicts, ive held him several times and helped him be able to swallow food but he just spits it back out to be honest im surprised hes been alive like this for months

i did wat i hope was the right thing to do and that was put my severum to sleep, it was terrible to watch his little fin still moving as he drifted away in the cold water, i felt i needed to watch it as i felt guilty for what i was doing and it still tears me up for doing so...

sounded like a little warrior if he carried on for so long without being able to eat properly etc, so I played "The Last Post"

I am sure you did the right thing. Have you tried clove oil before though. I have heard that the fish just falls asleep as well?

indeed it was, it was hard to watch it suffer for the months, the fact that the other fish were beating it up further did not help a one eyed, bladded infected severum

and to northernboy i had not heard that if i need to do so to another fish (god forbid) i may attempt that atleast i know he doesnt have to suffer anymore

I being an Australian shouldve known that, i apologise to reckless angel i thought u were implying it was stupid thing to do, yes indeed he was warrior he lost his eye about 2 weeks into owning him along with my oscar (infection from plants i think) but still managed to live out another almost 2 years

Sounds like swim bladder to me too. Have you tried feeding him some mashed peas. In a few cases it works but in most it won't and he probably isn't eating anyway. I'm sorry he is ill and he just may not make it. I always think it must be painful for them having this sac of air trapped in their body. Some claim they don't feel pain but why else do they stop eating when they're sick? I think they do.

I am so sorry you lost him. I was actually reading that swim bladder can sometimes be alleviated by "propping" the fish upright between something like decorations, etc. Are they nuts????????? Can you see propping up a fish. sheeeesh
