Is this what was meant wen I was told "some times they lose their head"?

"A" seems to be a section of "B" that has fallen off. Yet the "feather" still remains? The other one is still the size it was originally.

They sometimes do that when introduced to a new tank to build a new tube for themselves. Back when I started in reef in '87 about all the inverts you could keep where the tube worms and tube anemones.

Doesn't hurt them, as they do that on purpose. Those feathery looking things are its gills and food collection organ. Tube worms aren't worms at all, they are actually a bizarre kind of shrimp.

wow, that is really cool. I finally pulled it out of the tank and it is just a 2" tube.
