So I got a new green terror that I have put in the 55 with my two Oscars to try to get them ready for the 100 gallon I plan on buying. At first the Oscars were a little territorial so I had to turn off the lights all yesterday. Now they are swimming around together. The only problem I'm still having is at feeding time. The Oscars are so fast at eating the food I'm having a problem feeding him. I actually had to put the net in the tank and divide the tank temporarily to feed the green terror. I don't want to do this as the Oscars are very intelligent and may think they are being punished.... Any ideas on feeding. I was thinking about some NLS fast sinking pellets but I tried my brothers and the Oscars just eat them also.......... Any input would be appreciated... Thanks guys.....

Heres a picture. He has already taken the driftwood from the Oscars and aggression in the tank is not a problem......

You could always try hand feeding. He's new so sooner or later he should start butting heads with the oscar when the food comes around. Hope everything works out!

Being the new fish on the block he is probably still getting his poop in a group and getting used to his new home. It might take a couple of days but I am sure he will figure it out and be in there like a dirty shirt when it comes to feeding time.

yeah his coloration is completely awesome, thats why I got him. He actually eats right beside the Oscars and the Oscars don't care it's just they eat so much faster it is hard for him to get any.....

Have you tried feeding at both ends of the tank at the same time? That's what I do in my 90 gal malawi tank as I have a few over zealous fish in there.

Yeah I tried but he just stays grouped with the Oscars lol.... I guess he figures the Oscars know whats coming so he goes too. If I could get both ends working I'd love it, I'd feed the green terror twice the Oscars amount to get him growing. He is as long but his body is shallower.

Nice fish you got!
yeah you can try 2 hands feeding to disperse them. also when it settle in the new tank it comes up for food as fast as oscars and can get its own share.

yeah this is my first go around with green terrors. I have always kept Oscars, Jack Dempsey's, Red Jewels, or Texas Cichlid...... assorted africans, firemouth, and numerous tetra tanks from se asians to amazonians but never a green terror. I think they look awesome when they get grown full. He is going to have alot of coloration also and the NLS is just going to bring it out more....

We are thinking about getting green terrors for our 50g when we set up. Would they be fine with JD?

yeah they should be fine if only two in there. The only reason I have 2 Oscars and a green terror in the 55 gallon right now is because I'm going to a 100 gallon probably in April or so..... gt's get around 9-10 inches and jacks around 10 or so......

Okay, because in the summer were setting up the tank and my dad wants JDs and I want GTs. We might get 2 of each along with a pleco.

the gt's are very aggressive and will control the tank. I'd read up on them...... I'd go two JD's and one green terror so the gt's don't terrorize the entire tank...... you never know it might work out though.....

I read like 20 sites before I got him. They all said aggressive, very aggressive, or terrorizing when hungry........

and I have more than 20 friends keeping them in community and all say not very aggressive!
I have kept them for 1 year. now i have a pair of them with a severum and BPs in a 40g. they are just terrorizing at breeding time.
also theres a possibility that GTs are different here and there! :hmm3grin2orange:

try two and see if it works..... i don't want to restrict the fish that are going in to your tank but everywhere I read they are territorial and aggressive.... but like always there are differents in fish behavior depending on how they were raised.......

Man... he is a beauty.

I have to agree with Blu-ray though... they are not as aggressive as their name and reputation makes them out to be. However, it probably all depends on how they were introduced from the beginning. For instance, if they were matured with a school of other gt's, they will probably be more aggressive by nature.

However, I had a gt fry mistakenly placed in one of my malawi bags from a fish store. I didn't even realize it until I got home. He lived with a community of 3-4" cichlids and he grew to be over 6". No problems with him and the other fish what so ever. Then, he ended up jumping out of a pale onto the floor while I was moving and setting up a new tank. Unforunatley, he didn't make it. Miss that little (ummm big) guy!
