Lately I have been considering a brackwater community tank.Possibly in a 40gal long.I would like to have some of the space devoted to out of water inhabitatitants such as some crabs.I would have it be a rootscape with alot of roots underwater and branches and such overhanging the water.I would like archerfish as the centerpiece. What else could I put in with this configuration.Do archerfish in captivity hunt like they do in the wild by spitting?I would want possibly 10 fish not counting some crabs.help me get the ball rolling!

while I was waiting for a reply I did some research I noticed that they get bigger then I thought.Looks like a good excuse to change the tank size to 75gal.Assuming that size tank what mates could it have?

i would go for fish around the same size as the archer..they will eat any small fish..

are you going for an oddball theme, or just good tank buddies?

I have two archers. They are pretty meaty and I inherited them from a friend. They spit every now and then, sometimes in a successive rapid fire burst, (4-6). I thought about placing a branch or twig above the tank to put crickets on, maybe they will go for those? I've read their aim isn't that good either. My Archers tankmate(s) is a knight goby, he is pretty big, (around 2.25 inches). They are a great fish that can withstand brackish requirements and add great personallity to the tank.
