3-4" JB. Fishguy says he feeds mbunas which are 1.5" the jumbo formula. But i was also thinking of the hikari cichlid biogold +medium size for now. What you think?

sailor

Go with the large fish formula. Thats what I feed my frontosa.

It would be better if NLS had more sizes available in floating pellets. But I feed this pellet to all the cichlids at work, even the little 1" mbunas. They just grab one pellet and run around with it while is soaks. This also helps ensure everyone gets their share.

the NLS or Hikari cichlid biogold+ sailor?

Also on NLS's site it says within 10 days you see results in coloring?

yeah I wouldn't go with Jumbo yet... I use large the 3mm pellets and my Oscars are 5-6 inches............

Yes it is, I just get the biggest bucket of it and freeze it. Get the 225gr size to make sure your fish will eat it. If they don't eat it at first wait a couple days they will once they get hungry enough. 1 important thing Bud is don't feed too much as you don't need a lot of a good quality food to do the job. That goes for any good quality food not just NLS.

Bassfan
02-07-2008, 03:55 AM
well since hes 3-4", im going to feed him 2-3 pellets at most twice a day. And are you suppose to freeze the food?

Also, i cant find the 225g, only 300 or 150. Lol i must be not seeing it again.

sailor
02-07-2008, 03:58 AM
It does not hurt it at all, it helps keep it fresh.
You would not need to do that with the 225gr jar.

Bassfan
02-07-2008, 04:00 AM
Ok cool.. Could you help me find the 225g of the large formula? thank you.

sailor
02-07-2008, 04:11 AM
Go with the 300 gr jar then. I know Big als in canada has stopped stocking some of the sizes of some of the formulas for some reason. Maybe the US site has as well. It's only 75 more grams anyway.

Bassfan
02-07-2008, 04:14 AM
ok cool, thanks. Im going to only feed NLS to my new oscar from now on. I think he'll like it.

sailor
02-07-2008, 04:16 AM
It is good to have a great food for their staple diet but you can give treats as well everyonce in a while.

Bassfan
02-07-2008, 04:18 AM
Well fishguy said its best to feed just the NLS to get the best results. And being the NLS is a complete diet. But i do have some tetra freeze dried jumbo shrimp i can break up.

jbeining75
02-07-2008, 04:23 AM

Bassfan
02-07-2008, 04:27 AM

Bassfan

sailor
02-07-2008, 04:33 AM
The last time I ordered something from big als i got it in 4 buisness days. I use the sinking pellets so there is no chance of swallowing any air as they eat.

Bassfan
02-07-2008, 04:38 AM

jbeining75
02-07-2008, 04:45 AM
did u take the other back??? or you have two now.....

Bassfan
02-07-2008, 04:46 AM
I took the other back because the guy said there might be something wrong with the oscars they have. Like 2-3 hours before i called to tell them what the oscar was doing, another person called before me and said the exact same thing with the 2 oscars he bought. So i returned it and got my money back because it could be serious, and not knowing whats wrong.

Cool. Lol, is it bad for dogs to eat fish food?

jbeining75
02-08-2008, 01:39 AM
I have no idea man lmao......

Fishguy2727

My dog will eat the couple pellets that make it to the floor every once in a while. Per weight it is more expensive than his food, and he gets just about the best stuff out there. Most dog foods have horrible ingredients. My cousin gives me a hard time about liking NLS so much. He said I wish they made a dog food.

None of the ingredients should be harmful to a dog that I know of. Considering what most dogs will eat and not have any issues with, I would not expect any problems.

Bassfan
02-08-2008, 02:54 AM
well im more concerned about the fish, eatin dog slobber or somethin LOL. Btw i feed my dog purina Beneful.

Fishguy2727
02-08-2008, 03:01 AM
Purina is no good.

When I was trying to figure out what the best food actually is I found some independent sources of information online (not from the companies). They described what a dog food should and should not have and ways to 'rate your dog food'. Most are no good. Any by-products are big no. Corn and wheat products are also no good. Many of this stuff has absolutely no nutritional value and is used as a filler. The dog can't digest it and it just comes out the other end. Many times they will split up a product, so you will see some sort of corn product listed four times so it looks like it is not that much of the total food, yet it can be the most in total. As one nasty example of what by-products can be, the blood-soaked sawdust off the slaughterhouse floor can be scraped up into a barrel, sent to dog food company X, and become the main ingredient, listed as 'meat by-products', 'beef by-products', etc.

I feed Nutro Ultra. There are a few brands that are a little better, but not by much and you usually have to go to special feed stores to get them.

oh wow, thanks for the info. But you think the fish food will be alright until i get the NLS next week? i dont want the fish getting sick, even if thats possible considering dogs have the cleanest mouths.

Fishguy2727
02-08-2008, 03:08 AM
What happened?
Did your dog get into the fish food?

Bassfan
02-08-2008, 03:14 AM
well i was cleaning the bottom of the stand out and had it set on the floor (hikari cichlid package, the smaller bag one) and it was sealed if i remember correctly.. but i wasnt real sure so i just emptyed some of the food out jsut to be sure.. i am driving an hour to get my fish this saturday lol i dont want anything to happen.

Fishguy2727
02-08-2008, 03:16 AM
I doubt there is anything harmful in that, especially if it is dried.

Bassfan
02-08-2008, 03:17 AM
yeah, it looks dried. im just being cautious because i have to drive a long way to get a fish and want him to stick around lol. But i did empty some out so i think its alright. Next week he will be eating the best of best foods.
