hehe... this is Booty. My Butis Butis Crazy Fish. AKA: Crocodile Fish... for obvious reasons. And he changes colors to match his surroundings. If i can get a pics of him swimming upside down in the surface, I'll definately post it.

Neat looking fish, what sort of tank perameters does it require?

Tropical FW. 78 to 80 degree with some current and hiding spots. He's an ambush predator, plays dead at the surface... or lurks in the shadows. His head and most importantly, jaws, are 1/4 of his body. A true camouflage expert too. And I think they can control time and space because i'll be looking at him one second on one side of the tank and blink and he'll be stuck to the glass on the far side.
Before releasing him to the swamp, i fed him a minnow in the floating bowl and he bit it in half after two chomps then swallowed it. He's got "walking fins" that he uses to hold on to the underside of things while changing his pattern to match the surface.
Not the best picture, but one of him playing dead.

They didnt cost all that much since I got the majority of them as babies. The Reedfish were no more than 6 inches when I got them and were 6 dollars if i recall. The cuviers bichirs i got as juveniles for under 3. I think the spotted pike is was most expensive at 25. The crazy fish was 13 probably because of its uniqueness. The two butterfly fish were about 5. cant remember what the puffers and gobys were. I had them the longest.

What I noticed about the Butis Butis Crazyfish is that he becomes lighter in color at night. And still swims everywhich way he likes. I poked him once at the surface just to make sure he wasnt dead. He rolled over right-side up and calmly swam to the other side of the tank. Craziness.

I placed some feeder fish, minnows, in for the Bichir's, Pike, and Crazy Fish, paying my attention to Booty. And suprisingly, he swam... well, all crazy-like, down to some unsuspecting minnows and nabbed one as quick as anything I seen. He then swam backward, upside down, into the hanging branch hideout he like to finish it off. All the while his color changed from dark green and brown, then lightened up for the attack, then darkened back up as he pulled his prey but the tail backwards to his lair. Reminded me of a scene out of Predator. Im sure Booty is up there in his hide out gutting the minnow making a necklace of its bones.
