Will those of you from those States check in if you can so we know you are OK?

Hobbsy,
Eleven people were killed here in Arkansas, and at least seven in Tennessee and when last I heard two in Mississippi. I feel for their families.
Rained plenty, thunder boomed and wind blowed, but Em and I are just fine. We were glued to the tube from 1 pm on watching the weather, to keep an eye on what was coming.

I didn't hear about them, how close did they get to your area Dave?

Not very, crack. We live just above central Arkansas in the hills, and the majority of damage was in the Southeast side of the state, which is flat, about 3 and a half or four hours from me. Like I said, plenty of rain, lots of thunder and lighting and a great deal of wind, up to 50 mph gusts, as the storms were moving so fast. They were moving 55 to 60 mph during the day, and sped up to over 100 miles an hour in the evening, so as soon as the weather service issued a tornado warning for a county, the storm was already leaving that county.
There were about a million blackbirds in my trees (least it sounded like a million) cueing up to ride the storm. When they split, the storm hit about 20 minutes later.
Don't know if they were traveling north or south, but migratory birds like to ride in the edges of thunderstorms where they get a boost and not have to fly so hard.

Yea bad deal over here in my area of Arkansas. About 30min away we had 4 houses completely gone and a missing lady. I ain't to sure about all of it though. We also have a town about an hour away called Highland, dave knows, that had about a 500 yard strip through the town completely gone. There was a few other towns close that had a bunch of stuff happening but my little town of Pocahontas just had wind and rain.

I guess the tornados are in a different part of the states than I am. Only warning we have here right now is a dense fog watch for this morning. It's been kind of windy and rainy lately, but thats it.

We had two "tornadoes" pass through starkville last night. It was a bit scary. Both tornadoes were doppler reported. One of them formed a hook echo so well that it formed a donut with a empty core. Kind of creepy. We had some hail. There was a death about an hour and a half from here. :(

52 dead so far and hundreds injured. Some are still missing.

I can't believe some weren't killed in that girls dorm. Man, it was blown to bits. I don't know the number of tornado yet but it took in 4 or 5 states.
Awful! And especially awful if any little killed were killed. That gets me the most.

cocoa there have actually been several since 1988, which i got to see as it went past on its way to wipe out the evergreen trailer park, there was one about 6 years ago it wasnt as strong as the one in 88 thank god because my son and his dad were driving home when it grabbed the truck they were driving in and gave it a really good spin ,it made them both very dizzy , but no one was hurt and the truck made it through without a scratch ,there were a few cars in the ditch which they helped as many of the stranded motorists as they could get out of the ditch , also that tornado that ripped through in 88 took the shingles off the cogner of my house ,we got caught with the very outer edge of it ,this happened where my oldest son he was 2 at the time was sleeping in his crib he didnt even wake up that was the second house we lived in that has had damage from a tornado hitting it.

My dad just got off the phone with my uncle to check if they were okay, they live in TN. They said besides some nasty storms and wind they're ok.
We're not getting much here yet. The rain is just starting to move into NC, nothing here in fayetteville yet. Pretty high winds going on though. Thankfully most of its staying up on the tree line, so just some leaves and dust blowing around on ground level. I'll probaby take my flags down and other wind catching items. For those of you getting hit with storms now and here soon, becareful!
